Curious if anyone has used any active speakers/monitors (ie. KRK VXTs or Rokits) with some 500 series gear (or even a G91) to set up some cost effective "mini-systems". Haven't seen much posted (so apologies if overlooked), but seems a cost effective way to get some of the benefits of a Meridian system controller without having to dip more than a couple toes in the water. thoughts?

I have three separate 500 series systems with other brands of active and powered 'speakers; they all work really well.
Meridian processors have excellent analogue outputs and are very much an alternative to using DSP 'speakers and when used with suitable high quality monitors can easily out perform DSPs.
My brand of choice is Dynaudio.

All the best

I use small Genelec powered monitors with an MS200 analogue output in my kitchen. It sounds great, and is excellent value.

If you want analogue active speakers, I'd second the Dynaudio recommendation and raise you an ATC. I think both have been tried with Meridian systems with success.

How much do you want for your M1s?

Best speakers I have ever owned - I think!
Rose tinted ears may have deceived me, and I'd love to know for sure.

Interesting responses. To give a sense of scale, any models of the Genelecs or Dynaudios recommended? I note that there are bargains out there for MKii Dynaudios right now.

With the used prices of DSP5000s being as low as they are, I'd be tempted (as indeed I was) to just straight on in to DSP!
