So I read the product information on the MS600 before purchasing and thought great it comes with Rack Ears so it must fit into a rack.

The MS600 arrives, the product literature doesn't mention how to install the rack ears, but I work it out. I remove the MS600 feet, slide in the rack ears, screw them in and go to mount it into my Middle Atlantic rack to find that it won't fit.

With the lid on the MS600 the MS600 is slightly higher than a 1RU space. If putting it into a 2RU space I am left with a large gap above it.

So am I missing something, or did Meridian design the MS600 without testing that it would fit into a 1RU space with its attached rack ears.

I have just emailed Meridian Support so while awaiting a response I thought I would ask here to see if you knowledgeable people have any ideas.

Hi Spizz

According to Meridian documentation the MS600 is not a 1U size, see link it shows the MS600 height as 50mm with rack ears fitted and no feet, it also advises a 20mm clearance all around, so 50mm height + 40mm total clearance = 90mm, 1U = 44.45mm ( source ) meaning the space required for installation is 2U.

Russ,

Thanks for the reply. I understand about leaving clearance above for airflow and I would of rather have placed a blank rack plate above the MS600 then allow an open gap on the front of the rack.

Looking at my options I guess I have 2. Get MA to cut a custom face plate for the MS600, or purchase a HBL1 1 space Blank plate and get it laser cut to allow enough clearance for the MS600 below it.

Either way will eliminate the open face gap as well as providing air flow around the unit.

Thought it was a no brainer when I purchased the MS600 as every other piece of equipment I have that comes with rack ears, fits into either a 1RU, 2RU space etc without any abnormal sizing exceeding those spaces.

Lesson learnt.

I had the MA custom shelf for the TwinStore, very nice option for customising.
