For a while, my front three speakers were each displaying different volume levels, then the 568.2mm died and went back to Meridian, to receive new power supply components, an EPROM chip and firmware update. At the same time, I acquired a 596 to use as a CD player and since putting the two components back, it's all gone pear shaped.

Having researched the forum, it seems the volume inconsistency is down to multiple controllers. I used "clear" on the remote to test this and found all three speakers were controllers! So I reset each one to "auto" leaving the 568 as the controller, but on performing the test again, they're all back as controllers.

All three speakers are also displaying the red light as if they were the master. So I've triple checked my wiring and am confident that's correct. I have also for the time being detached my surround speakers wiring.

I next tried to re-type the system, but the 568 is not responding to the "up" arrow on the remote in standby, but it does respond to other commands, like "off," "CD" etc.

I am now at a bit of a loss and would appreciate any help you can give. If possible, I would prefer to make any changes via the remote.

Thanks in advance.

The speakers need retyping by the sounds of it.

Thanks, Edd

Set the one you want as controller to yes and the others to no rather than just using auto. I've had to do this myself in the past.

You also have to explicitly configure each speaker whether it is a Master or Slave.

I wouldn't bother using the remote when you're typing the 568. Just use the front panel buttons.

As has been said you need to type your speakers ( you do need the remote for this) and select only one of them as master which you'll then connect to the 568 with a 5m lead. Once you've wired it only the master will respond to the clear command and allow you to set a single controller. The slave speakers will mirror the master speaker after this.

Good luck, it's worth it!

Hi Technophobe,

Good advice above, follow it in methodical steps.

1) Start from scratch, don't assume anything is correct.
2) Decide which DSP is to be the MASTER (often people choose the centre DSP)
3) Connect the processor with a M5 cable to the MASTER DSP.
4) Connect the MASTER DSP to a SLAVE DSP using S5 leads.
5) Connect this SLAVE DSP to the next SLAVE DSP, etc. etc.
6) Re-TYPE (6) and configure the MASTER DSP (there should only be one master, red light on)
7) Re-TYPE (6) and configure the SLAVES DSPs (no red light).
8) Re-TYPE and configure the processor (to your requirements).
9) With the whole system in standby; point the MSR at the processor and press the clear button (the processor should display auto, the controller; and the MASTER DSP NCONT.
10) Press a source button and the check the volume stays in sync on all devices.

For TYPEing and configuring, read the user guides (available for download from Duncan's Info site.

Regards,
Carl

Thanks everyone for your valuable contributions-all now as it should be and sounding wonderful again.

As regards typing the 568, it would have helped if I had read the manual properly and used the buttons on the front panel and not the remote!
