What is the minimum distance recommended from a side and rear wall for those speakers (for best sound)?

I can't remember if it is 20 or 24 inches frown

Also I have read on here if I recall, that for the new EBA firmware there are different versions SpeakerLink and non-SpeakerLink, is this so because I was not told this from my Meridian tech?

Also for my 3 front 5200s, I bought two AC12s to be able to make them run with CAT6 wiring, basically making them SpeakerLink speakers, no?

If they are now basically SpeakerLink speakers, how does that now relate in the question above about the new EBA software?

TIA,
Mike

My understanding is that there are more differences between SL and non SL than how the signal and comms get there- an AC12 doesn't make non-SL SL.

Non SL speakers will never have EBA. Yes they have different firmware (see Firmware Release Notes below).

Both great speakers. EBA is great but speaker setup has to be good to hear the effect. All IMHO.

If you want to configure your speakers for free space then the handbook states they should be 20 inches from a back or side wall.

Well I'll have to double check again with Meridian because I had sent them all the info with serial numbers of my speakers and they told me all of them could use the new EBA software.

Thanks for the distance info.

Thanks for the link Russ...

That is where I had originally seen the info about the EBA upgrade before and that is opposite to the info I had received from Meridian in an email.

I was told that I was good to go in regards to all my speakers with the upgrade to EBA despite the fact that my 3 front 5200s are of the non SpeakerLink variety with 200 serial numbers.

I just spoke to Meridian UK which have now confirmed my fears and unfortunately as in the link posted above in regards to the SE upgrade, my 3 front speakers will have to remain as is and only my rears can be upgraded to use the EBA software. cry

I wonder whether Meridian have considered facilitating a SL upgrade? I guess you'd need a new DSP board and input board. Nearly DIY.

The SE upgrade wasn't possible from all serial numbers of 5200 because of differences in the internal construction. It's quite possible this also hinders a "simple" SL upgrade.
