Having now being informed firmware is a lot different between SpeakerLink and non-SpeakerLink, could anyone say if there is a massive difference between them i.e. quality?

I used to have SpeakerLink with compatible processor, however I know have non-SL equipment so to upgrade again will cost a lot.

I would consider this if there is a big difference between the two. However I mainly use the speakers for movies so maybe my next purchase should be a 5200 centre?

The main thing you will miss between 5200 and 5200SL is EBA - lots of other threads on that.

I'm in a legacy 5200 world and just added a 5200HC - it's a great place to be at the moment.

What's your other kit (front end)? It may be more cost effective to spend elsewhere.

Hi TinTin,

Front end? I only have DSP5200 LR. I will be looking into a center.
I am currently building a Cinema following a recent move so have decided to go analog on all surround speakers.

Presence? (cabled but not sure if I will use them.
Sides and rears all cabled but undecided on exact speakers to use.

I actually sold my G61R and HD621, to you, some years ago and regretted it ever since. Especially the SpeakerLink 5200's. I cannot remember why we chose a PC World car park to do the transaction though! lol.

Anyway after selling all of that, it was not long and I bought DSP5000's LRC with analog rear speakers. I then felt as the new house is having a makeover so should the speakers... however money is now holding up the center, for now!

Well welcome back. I think there are a few centres around at the moment (from 5kCs -Ricky to 7k2.2 -me) plus speakers left after SE upgrades.

There is a school of thought that SL is better SQ wise because it's a balanced digital signal rather than SPDIF, it gives you an opportunity to home run cabling rather than daisy chain but I think you'd need to be listening hard and for HT, I don't think you'd miss too much.

Hope it goes well.
