Have just suffered storm/electrical damage to my 559s Does anyone know the drawdown power requirement so I can see what sort of strength ups (if any) I can insert You can buy protection plugs that protect up to say 1000J or 10,000A but I do not know what that means in terms of a lightning strike
btw Mr Ratberg I have checked the datasheet and it is not there
Here is the link to the manual that it appears did have the information you required, then a google search for the formula would have provided your answer, just trying to help you to help yourself.
VA is not watts - it doesn't take into account the power factor so could be out (high) by as much as 50% although on a resistive load will be closer to the truth. IIRC that UPS's will clearly show whether limits are in VA or W so don't mix the two.
Watch out for UPS current draw. May add another 100W to the load ie 2.4kWh daily draw - typically 30p-40p/day.

Looking at the data sheet the 557s draw 1200 as per the 559s but the G56s seem to be 325 ish.
So allowing for confusing definitions it would appear to be quite different in build and normal UPS might suffice for a G56?
Otherwise a plug protector may be the only option. I see these vary though quite a lot, and a higher quality surge protector block seems to offer greater protection, but these are frowned upon by some as degrading sound?
As I understand it, lightning does what it wants, it doesn't need wires to go down or fuses to go through. If you get a lightning strike any damage will be down to luck/bad luck. As I understand it.
(I leave out offerings to the thunder god, it's cheaper)
