Welcome Enno,

It's so very encouraging that you and your team are still involved in the company. You made an industry leading product in Sooloos and I can't wait to see how you can once again disrupt the market with the next generation of Meridian Sooloos products and software!

Cheers,

Kerry

Enno,

That is fantastic news. I have been wondering what should replace my ageing Squeezebox, and now that I am reassured that Sooloos has a good future I think I know the answer: an MC200!

Cheers,
Simon

Just to add my welcome to Enno and am glad things are happening behind the scenes.

I would like to ask about Moods, what do they do, why are they not extracted anymore and are they obsolete leaving room for more usefull data?

Cheers, Chris smile

As you all know, the Meridian Sooloos products haven't had the care and feeding they deserve over the last few years. What you may not know is that Danny and I (and the original dev team) haven't disappeared or been hibernating; we've shared many of the views in this topic since 2.1 shipped, and have been laying the foundation of a brighter future.

You'll be hearing a lot more from me over the coming weeks and onward from there. I want everyone to know that no opinion stated here goes unnoticed, and that your input is hugely influential in shaping our ongoing work (which is indeed a thing).

I'll start sharing some of that later this month.

Haven't you and Danny been there since M bought Sooloos? If so, why the lack of care and feeding all these years? If not, where does the "renewed" focus on Sooloos come from?

Many of our key objectives (track-level metadata, UI localisation, artist/composer data, kinetic GUI, cross-platform clients) were too ambitious to be pursued as incremental changes to the existing codebase. So in 2010, following the release of 2.1, we started work on a ground-up rewrite of Sooloos.

That effort formed the basis of work we did over the ensuing years for Jaguar Land Rover and HP -- you'll find references to HP Connected Music elsewhere in the forums -- which had been prioritised at that point. Those projects have reached a kind of equilibrium, so over the last year we've put a great deal of design and development effort into what's next for Meridian Sooloos.

While we have been acutely aware of the deficiencies inherent in 2.1, our resources are limited, and making incremental improvements to an existing product while developing a new product in parallel would've been impossible. We made the choice to focus our efforts on the latter (however painful in the near term) and I'll be able to share some of that on the forums soon.

Track level metadata... That's all I heard.

That all sounds fab, I take it the new Sooloos will all work on existing Sooloos hardware/infrastructure?

Enno,

That's great news, and thank you for sharing it with us. You're well aware that many on this forum have been pining for track level data for years, and if I knew what a kinetic GUI was I'm sure I'd want one of those too.

One thing that intrigues me is you're based in Bangkok, and I presume your colleagues are still in the US. Does this mean that Sooloos are literally working round the clock on the new software?

Regards,

Dominic
