Hi all,

I have an opportunity to buy the 861v2.74. Can't find much information about it online. As I understand upgrading to v6 or v8 is not an option.

Thanks a lot.

Personally, I would treat the 861 as a v2 that will only be a 861v2. If you want an 861v4, buy an 861v4 as the economics of an upgrade, even if you could get the bits, are unlikely to stack up.

The most important bit is to buy the 861 of the spec (especially card options) that you want now, and not an expensive bunch of cards that you don't need and a shell that wont function without spending a shed load more on.

The 861v2 is still a great pre amp / controller but to avoid disappointment and costs purchase it for what it can do as it is, not what it might be able to do if upgraded.

Cards do turn up from time on the used market, but you might be left wanting.

Regards,
Carl

I think it might be safe to say that a v4 might cost you a little more than a v2 but would offer quite a lot more going forward (to use a modern business phrase).
