I bought one and installed RaspBMC. It sounds great into my 561 and DSPs. I have ordered a solder on DAC board with SPDIF outs to bypass the HDMI audio etc.

Much more fun than Apple TV.

Nice! I have great plans for my Pi. Get a Squeezebox client going on it and run that headless, controlled from my phone. Simple first job. Then write some kind of web app to send commands over RS232 to my DSPs and/or 568. This is more for fun (and get me learning python maybe) than for actual usefulness. Although, being able to change volume from my phone would be good, then I could ditch the MSR and do it all from the phone.

For what it's worth there are a few alternatives for Mac users wanting to make SD cards with the operation system on from "img" files.

I had trouble with a few but ApplePi-Baker seems to work best.

I did also look at Volumio as a high end audio dedicated OS. I loved the idea that it focussed on audio and didn't mess around with any wasted resources on video. However, it was pretty unstable for me (drop outs and pops). RaspBMC has worked flawlessly so far.
