Hi, can anyone help with where I could find the MHR connection from 598 to 568.2mm. Just upgraded from 596. The 598 is the DP component out.

Also does it come with card as my 596 was upgraded to 596P in 2005? Sorry for ignorance on this.

If not can the progressive scan card be transferred from the 596 to 598?

Cheers in advance
Jim

Hi James

MHR will only be applied to the 598 output if you are playing a DVD-A disc. With CD and DVD, it will be vanilla PCM output.

To get multichannel DVD-A (MHR) or CD/DVD PCM from the 598 into your 568.2mm, you need to use the VGA connections. The 598 with any G or 800 series processor can use the 3xSPDIF outputs top achieve the same thing.

Cheers

George

PS Oops, just re-read your post. The 598DP is progressive scan output, that's what the P stands for.

598DP = Digital output/Progressive scan
598AS = Analogue output/Scart

Thanks very much to both of you. Her my ignorance, George can you tell me again.

How to get the best from CD using the VGA? Where can I buy a good quality one (if necessary) and I if I want to watch DVD to I have to chance anything. Using the link VGA is the 568 just not be smart enough to know?

I thought a 598 would give me slightly better quality.

I am a plug and play man. So simply how do I get the best from all with out having a brain haemorrhage as I had a serious heart attack last year and am having memory difficulties, will I see a difference in the 598 as opposed to the 596 for mainly music.

George does that mean the 598 has a progressive card in it and will my old 596P act as a spare.

Chris from Meridian who is a saint has told me many of the parts are similar, but didn't want to cause him a coronary with too many questions.

Thanks to everyone again in advance.
Make it as simple as possible folks.
Jim

Use a well built/designed standard VGA connector. Ie a standard PC one, well standard as per pre DVI/HDMI.

SmartLink is the 3 combined channels. MHR is the protocol that runs over it and many other Meridian 2 channel links. Smartlink on compact devices uses the VGA connector although 596DP also has coax out version of SmartLink for connecting to larger processors that use coax only.

SmartLink is enabled by default on 598DP, aux is normally enabled too, but under unusual circumstances will not mirror 2ch SmartLink.

To utilise the SmartLink connector, 568.2mm needs to be configured so it is input - iirc MD1.

If you have not already done so, when you get a new device, always best to retype to a known good configuration.
