I've just upgraded from Windows XP to 7 and now find that I can no longer set up my 568.2MM with the computer. I'm using the same notebook PC and null serial cable (Meridian)/USB adaptor as before. The error message says check cable. I've just reinstalled the legacy configuration program. Switching the 568 off and on with the cables connected used to cure the problem, but no longer.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Was it a fresh install? Did you reinstall the drivers?

What USB/Serial device is it?

The driver is the Microsoft "Prolific Serial/USB" obtained automatically when I updated the USB driver.

I admit I'm having major problems with the USB ports (even the mouse becomes unrecognised). The PC is old (2005 vintage HP Pavilion).

I do not know the brand of serial adaptor.

Most USB/Serial converters are essentially the same other than chipset -Prolific or FTDI and variations of. Sounds like yours is Prolific based and the driver is loaded.

Have you gone into Device Manager (right click MyComputer then Properties and Device Manager) and looked at what com port it has assigned for the USB/Serial device and checked its not marked with yellow !.

As well as Ian's sagacious advice it's worth checking which Comms port the Legacy programme is searching for the 568 on. It needs to match the setting for whatever the device manager has the serial cable on (1-4).

I ticked all boxes in the config program so that I know which one is giving problems. I also tried them one by one. I'll have another go and advise. Many thanks.

Also watch that older versions of legacy program only allowed com1-4 to be selected where as later OS's could assign a device outside this range - i have com 9 and 18 assigned to various USB/serial devices. So you need the latest legacy program if your USB/serial adaptor assigns com port >4 or try and force com port to 1-4. Best to get newer legacy program if you don't have that.

With all the changes and updates of my PCs I've lost the latest legacy program - Is it obtained via the common installer?

Yes, see the support link at the bottom of this page and then select configuration to get to the common installer download.
