Hi guys,

Now I have built my wall frame for my new media room I am wanting to make a couple of brackets that will 'stick out' when it's all finished and support my centre speaker (DSP5000C). I have added 2 extra studs for this so the weight of the speaker won't be an issue.

I can use timber or metal and was wondering if anybody here has done this and can advise on their experience? I thought I did see a pic on here a little while ago but do you think I can now find it...no

Although you won't see the brackets/supports when the speaker is on them I want to make them as nice as possible etc.

At this point I am looking towards making up 2 metal brackets that will bolt to the side of the wall studs and have a solid 20-25mm solid bar or maybe 40mm square tubing coming out approx 200mm to support each end of the speaker. I can then get this powder coated etc so it has a good finish.

Either I go for a fixed support bar (welded to the bracket) or a removable bar that slides into a sleeve welded onto the bracket etc.

thanks

Craig

Colin Triggs of this forum has available heavy duty microwave brackets that will easily support your 5000C.

My avatar which may be the picture to which you refer shows 3100HC on these brackets, I also support my 5000C this way.

Solid bar is not needed tube is sufficient.

Some years ago I used 2 x 10mm threaded studs bolted through a block wall.
I then wrapped them with black electrical tape.
Practically invisible.

Well I have a friend who owns a race car team up the road and they have CNC machines so they could make a billet aluminum bracket for me and it would pretty good with a piece of tube that sticks out.

Then if I want a piece of timber like in that pic I could drill 2 holes in the timber and slide it over the rods etc. My speaker will sit about 200mm off the ground as I have a recessed part in the wall frame that is 2400mm x 1420mm which a 84" UHTV will be going in at some point etc. Then I will install a drop down electric 120" screen that will go in front of the TV but of course stop short of the centre speaker.

The threaded bolts is a great idea but as I have a bare wall frame I have the opportunity to make up something that will look great and be very easy to implement. The hardest thing is deciding on the best design that will look good with or without the speaker in place.

Regardless of which way I go I will post a view pics in the gallery.

Thanks for the replies.

Agree... as you are building from scratch you should have some neat options.

Here's a couple of pics of the threaded studs for reference. Useful if anyone is installing to brick/block walls.

It will be nice to follow your install so thanks for posting the pics.

I am just thinking about these solutions. I always understood that a centre speaker gets quite a lot of energy. Isn't it therefore extremely important to have a very sturdy isolated support, maybe then put the speaker on spikes or on a anti vibration plateau (I have seen some DYI sandfilled ones, quite neat).

By the way, the OP's situation seems extremely suitable for a nice in-wall DSP.

My 2 p.

Nick,

Thanks for the pics. Yes that's a good option for an existing wall.

originally I had come across these brackets that would bolt to the stud on an existing wall. It looks good but they are only rated for 15kg's so no good for any Meridian speaker.

15kg each or across the pair? You could double up and spread the load across four potentially.

Nice brackets, though it is not so much using four brackets, but the turning moment about the bracket

Right, but isn't that also spread?

You're building a false wall and you're not setting the speaker flush into it?
Can I ask why?

I don't want to lose the extra 200mm and reduce the size of the overall length of either room.

The main speakers cannot be recessed flush so I think the centre will look better the way I am doing it.
