I doubt this would work. From what I understand, the software is packaged according to QNAP specifications (QDK) into something called a QPKG. This in turn needs to be compiled for each CPU architecture (Intel, ARM, etc).

Even though I would like a Synology compile I'm not holding my breath. And probably messy to bake something every update.

I have seen a few attempts to do this and whilst the results have been pretty poor there does seem to be at least some success running it as a virtual machine. Certainly not with enough success to make me consider it as a viable option.

Running the Synology software on alternative hardware is a much more satisfying experience. I would however like to think that a Synology compile is not something that we are likely to see anytime soon as I would hate to think of Meridian stretching their resources further when they seem to be reaching their limits with what they already have.

Cheers,

Tony.

I would imagine that there are easier ways of handling this than Meridian installing their own software on every permutation of NAS. They just need to accept that people buy Meridian kit for the sound quality and not to accumulate expensive storage/control solutions. The QNAP and iPad app seems to be recognition of this. Long may it continue.

Exactly.

Whilst things like Synology storage and Android/WP control all seem to be often requested items at the end of they day they don't really add much value, if any at all, and just further complicate the ecosystem and support and stretch existing resources just that little bit thinner than is really necessary.

Especially given that Meridian already seem to have trouble supporting and developing what they already have.

Cheers,

Tony.

Definitely agree with you on this one, Ian.

We all know that QNAP is M's preferred supplier. As such if you want to use a NAS for this purpose you know what you have to buy. (I type this as a legacy ReadyNAS owner. Grrrr.)

Just to contradict myself I think that the Core Control app iOS/Android debate is slightly different however, as these operate in a larger world than a NAS which is limited to your internal network.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.
