Hi Guys,
Since I have been off work with a chest infection I thought I would try to add my Velodyne sub to my setup.
I have been mucking around with setup on and off all day without any luck.
I added a sub in M Config and was advised to use OA18#1 3/4 so I plugged 2 XLR cables into 3 & 4 and then to the Velo. When I go into speaker management and I go through the test tones when it comes to the sub... nothing.
Also in Speaker management when you save it back to the 861 it comes up very quickly with 'The 861 couldn't connect with all speakers'... wow thanks for telling me, lol.
Did a Sine test also and nothing at all with the sub.
Tested the sub with my 568 and it works fine so it's the 861 setup but I have tried everything I know. Also read the 861 manual but that doesn't have anything useful in it in regards to an analogue sub etc.
As always any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Craig

Have you read the jumper lead instructions? It could have been set up for something else. I'm no expert but I would start there.

I assume you are running a mono sub channel. If so, you need one XLR cable from output #4 on OA18 #1. If you set up stereo subs even though you only have one, then the config program should have had you run two XLRs from OA18#2 outputs 1 and 2.
It shouldn't matter, but you may want to try typing the 861v6 as Type 1 which should force the analog outputs to work, then upload the configuration program.
I would think that you would get sound from the sub even with the setup you currently have.

Tintin, Yes I actually did pull both OA18 cards out yesterday just to make sure they were jumpered correctly and yes Kishore did them correctly as I suspected so it isn't that.
Dollar2, I tried Type 1 on the 861 and then tried it before and after uploading the config file but still nothing.
Currently I have 2 XLR cables running to the sub's input and I have tried only running 1 in different configurations and still nothing coming from the sub. This has me totally stumped.
Thanks for the comments though. Everything is worth a try.

What size is the analogue sub output set to?
Sometimes calibration from the front panel can reset the analog sub output "size" to 0 ... I don't know if this bug ever got fixed.
Power cycle, re-upload config with the correct size set to "max" or 29 and then test the calibration. If the DIP switches are set right and the cables connected to the correct output it should work!

Hi,
Yesterday I did try MAX size and then 28 and still no sub action at all. Yes the cables are certainly connected to the right card (#1) and outputs (3/4).
I thought I have tried everything really over the whole day yesterday apart from changing the cables. The cables were bought brand new from a company who sells just that...cables. I doubt both are faulty.
The only thing that really stands out is that when in speaker calibration in M Config when uploading the file it will come up that all speaker couldn't connect to the 861. Well of course all do apart from the sub so there is something going on that eludes me.
Also this probably doesn't make any difference but the cards in the back of the 861 don't really correspond to the graphic in M config. e.g the CO00 card is listed next to the power card but actually it is about 3 card spaces away. Although the cards are in slightly different positions they obviously all work etc so I guess it really doesn't matter what positions they are put in then. All work except the sub of course.
Thanks

I used to drive an analogue Velodyne sub with my 861v6 ... do you want a copy of my old config file to compare with?

Yes I would like to look at your config file if possible.
When I used my 565 or 568 of course I ran an RCA from them and then used a Y connector and then the 2 RCA's into the 2 RCA inputs on an older Velodyne I have.
I am assuming with my new DD+ I do use both the XLR's on the 861 being 3 & 4 as MConfig tells you on Card #1 and run both XLR cables to the twin XLR inputs on the sub?
I assume that's correct as the 861 is telling you 3 & 4 and not 3 or 4.
The only thing I can think of is that XLR 3 is the analogue centre and it is somehow conflicting with the DSP centre through SL. This may be totally fiction but if my cables are correct as above then it has me stumped.
Thanks

Is the audio not working in pairs? Mono Sub comes with center. So DSP center, DP woofer?

You should only have one cable going from the 861 to the sub and it should be output #4 from OA18 #1. The config program is only telling you what pair to use and you need to "just know" that 3 is center and 4 is subwoofer.
Regardless, the OA18s should be putting out analog signals and you should be getting something out of your current setup. Are the cards firmly in place?
I would try changing the config file to stereo subs and moving the cable to OA18#2, output 1 or 2. Both would be live with a subwoofer feed. This is only to test it. Then put it back to mono sub and move back to OA18#1 output 4.

I did try adding a 2nd sub and plugging the XLR into the card OA18 #2 1/2 just to try something different. Have tried on OA18#1 4 by itself etc.
I took the cards out over the weekend to check the jumpers which were correct and made sure they are seated correctly etc.
One thing though... The XLR cables I bought are sealed etc but if they did or didn't use the 3rd pin would this be some cause of the drama?
Thanks

Ok well I have some news although not good news.
I have found out that the sub has died... I will be taking to the dealer as it's under the 3yr electronic and 5yr woofer warranty.
I did check the fuse but it's fine.
This has been the drama with my trying to get it to work as I have an older Velodyne (17yrs old) and used XLR to RCA adapters and it worked fine.
My fault as I was trusting a relatively new sub to be working and I had used it with my amp and receiver in a previous room setup at my old house etc.
Thanks for everyone's input and help and sorry for not even thinking the sub could have been dead.
Craig
