Hi guys,
A question regarding comms. If it has already been covered then feel free to move this to that thread although I couldn't find it.
If I run my 596 (or 504) with my 861v6 is there anyway with comms addresses where UNLESS I press DVD (or RADIO) on the remote then it will not come out of standby?
I really don't want them turning on all the time when I am using the 861 for some other sources etc.
Is this possible to even do? I would assume so but I was mucking around with comms addresses but the 861 can only be set to 1 address so I am stumped.
Thought it was time to ask the M experts on here.
Thanks
Craig

All sources come on when you select any source in my system. I leave my 596 powered off unless I am going to use it. Not sure it uses much less power in standby as when it's on an idle. Just my experiance, Chris
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

In your signature you show systems in different rooms. The lounge system have a source (596) controller(568) and DSP so everything is covered, it's a system by its self. The media room system has no source so it's not a complete system. I guess the 596 from the lounge is the source, so you want to have one source independent for two rooms? To turn the 596 out of standby a C-lead have to be connected between your controller 568 and the 596. To turn on the 596 with the 861 you also need a C-lead, BUT then you have one source (596) connected comms-wise with two processors. It could work but I have no experience here. I guess when you wake up one component in that "C-lead" chain, everything will wake up. You should read the manual from a DSP where the "system address" "system protocol " and "product address" are described. Then try that out in the "Meridian Legacy Configuration" (with the blue icon not the black icon as used for your 861v6) on "setup". Maybe then the 861 only wakes up the 596 when you are lucky. You can also try to setup your lounge DSP with the "system protocol" as described above in the manual. Or setup the lounge system without a comms address and no C-lead (same as a non M source) to the 568, so (hopefully) only the 861 will wake up the 596(here is the 596 configured as usual). A possible disadvantage could be that you have to turn on twice in the lounge the system. First with DSP and then 596 only with the MSR. But that's all only speculation, sorry have no experiences here. It have to work as M have multiroom capability and also the comms system is working refer to my experience. The easiest and fastest way of coarse is what Chris suggested...

Sorry Robert to confuse you but I put the 596 in my media room at the moment.
I will move it back in the lounge soon but it's the same drama with the 504 with the 568 etc. So if we just want to listen to the radio then the 596 would turn on also.
Anyway I guess I will just turn off one of them (most likely the 504) like Chris suggested until we need to use it then. No big drama I guess.
When I had my 565, 562V & 518 connected up back when they were new in the late 90's I had to have them on all the time when using them and then I bought a 504 but never really used it so I couldn't really remember.
Thanks for the replies.

I leave the 596 switched off unless it is actually in use after two drive failures. IIRC the cause was the CD/DVD drive ran even in standby and would wear out. You can hear it whirring if you get up close.
The other option is not to connect the components with comms cables.

Obviously switching off a device is best idea but for those wanting convenience, iirc there is a setting (in 96 menu?) to prevent the drive spinning when not in use. Its been a long time and may be wrong about this.

Thanks. I will be switching it off when not using it. I have searched in the 596 menu and I cannot find a way to turn off the drive in standby.
Where it usually resides in the Lounge is OK as it the whole system has a 'master' power switch to turn it all on etc. to listen to music. I never leave the DSP's in standby for long periods when we are not using them.

Was it the 'hidden' 96 menu that you tried? I added a link on how to access it to my post above.
As I said, I may be wrong about this option but do recall discussing this issue with M support in the distant past.

It was just the normal 596 menu I'm afraid. it's ok anyway as I doubt I will use it much anyway.
