Hello

Thinking of getting the G65 and HD621. Can anyone tell how it performs with B&W 804n, 805n and HTM? Also how is it with Krell KAV amps?

Thank you Rob

Few days ago got the G65 and HD621, connected to Linn Klimax solo (front), Krell Showcase amp for center and surround. B&W 802D, HTM2D, 4 B&W in wall for back channels.
Did not have much time to test, but first impression, comparing to my old Denon AVC1HD (with audio aero preamp for stereo, without Showcase), G65 and HD621 sound incredible; so much clearer, more dynamic, hear things I did not notice before. Trifield is great for stereo. Would be interesting to compare with 861 v6 or v8.

Would also be interesting to put the 861v4 with linear power supply in that mix as well for comparison.

Regards
David

I have used a Meridian front end with various Krell amps (including the KAV series a while back) driving analog speakers for many years (since the mid 90's). It's a fantastic combination. I started with a 565/562V combo, then a 568, and finally a G68XXV and HD621.

I couldn't be happier with my M gear - though recently I'm beginning to lose faith. Going from the G68 to G65 seems like more of a step back than forward, a compromise product somewhere between the G61 and G68. And the fact that my HD621 can output 8 channels, and the G series still cannot input 8 channels has always been and still is very disappointing (the majority of my usage is 7.1 encoded blu-ray). Most $300 AVR's can accomplish this, so I know M could do it if they wanted.

Go ahead and add $500 to the price of a G65, I'll take it. Maybe this is the final G series processor we'll see, and M will be allocating its future resources exclusively to the 800?

Nonetheless, this turn of events has for the first time made me begin to look at other processor manufacturers for my next purchase. Another British company that reminds me a lot of the cutting edge Meridian of 20 years ago - Datasat.

Hi XrayYou,

The G65 is a step forward without a doubt. It has a far better power supply both for reliability and audio quality. It has SpeakerLink and MMHR inputs, something the G68 and G61 will never have.

The name G65 comes from it being released 20 years after the 565 it doesnt mean it's lower in the rank than a G68 with a bigger number.

The G65 is Meridian's answer to a fully loaded all in one solution processor.

Worth a listen to before you jump ship!

Kind regards
David

Having re read the post again,

No the G65 is not a true 7.1 processor. That is left for the 861.

A s/h 861v6 is rare but they do come up.

Kind regards
David

I think the G65 has a new master oscillator, thus lower jitter, better SQ. Also I think it can control EBA on EBA enabled speakers. Progress I'd suggest.

I'm glad the G65 now has MMHR, but again it needs to incorporate the full 8ch input capability. This is now considered basic functionality, and not a feature to be reserved for a 25k reference unit like the 861.

I agree. I've said before (seemingly to the annoyance of a couple of people who didn't seem to want to acknowledge that discs are now routinely released with native 7.1 soundtracks) that lack of 7.1 input support is the major disappointment to me.

It seems likely to me that it's a technical limitation that couldn't be overcome, or not at an acceptable cost anyway. I guess my old vanilla G61 will have to run on a while longer.
