Okay so my room correction magic box arrived with great promise of helping sharpen the 6ks bass respons in my rather bijou listening room.

Oh bugger, I rather made the assumption that the when its literature said SPDIF I assumed this meant co-ax - stupid me

In actual fact it meant optical SPDIF, which is okay because my Modwright (modded Slim Devices) Transporter comes with a good choice of digital input and output options (not USB though which is a shame). Now my 6ks don't have optical inputs - so folks, any ideas on how to connect the Dual Core to the 6ks?!

I connect via the optical input of my 568.2, but I also bought a toslink to coax (and vice versa) converter - they real cheap and work flawlessly BH photo - Converters and lots of places have them.

Amazon UK TosLink-Coax 12 quid.

Update!

So the optical-coax converter arrived yesterday, and after realising I did not have the right toslink cables and a quick trip to Maplins I'm pleased to say it's up and running. It is fed by the optical output from the Modright into the Dual Core which process in digital, and then outputs optical to the adaptor which then feeds co-ax to the 6ks.

A quick typical calibration with the microphone positioned where my head normally is demonstrated unsurprisingly that the room is inducing a big spike at 50Hz followed by a suck out at 100Hz. The auto algorithm flattens it all out and I stick a few bass heavy tracks on hear the effect - Trentemoller, James Brown, Augustus Pablo etc.

The first thing I have to do is turn it up, and that no longer induces a fat bass rumble. The sound is cleaner and the bass sharper, bit ore depth, and certainly a fair bit more detail. Pressing the bypass button lets you quickly A-B the non EQ'd room response, and its effect is pretty stark. At first it sounds like the non EQ is weightier and richer but after a while your ears just know which version is right.

More listening tomorrow but so far jolly good!

Glad you up and running, you must overlay a house curve on the bass as you don't want it flat, add 1-3 dB boost in the bass with the tone controls. Flat measured at listening position will sound bass light.

As to turning it up, the antimode applies VERY conservative headroom compensation - go to the Audio settings and reduce the headroom as it loses you resolution if it's high... the problem is that you keep on having to do this as any change in the curves or parametrics you make result in the antimode overriding your headroom setting and going back to ultra conservative.

Do not worry about or try correct suckouts, they are normally VERY steep and are not that audible - not as audible as peaks.

You can really fine tune the bass, what with the Meridian's controls and the offboard processor; fiddle with tilt as well as all the rest, I have found that tilt also affects the bass, sometimes just changing it snaps it into place or gives it more weight.

I've added the 3KHz psycho acoustic dip and have been listening to see if I hear any benefit from that. On your advice I have added the house curve and headroom tweaks. Yes you're spot on, no-one really wants a totally flat response for listening purposes!

I get the sense it will take a few weeks to suss out the best settings. Marvellous tool and tremendous vfm imho.

I've done quite a bit of research on the BBC dip - google "gundry dip or BBC dip" , makes interesting reading.

Interesting reading. Have a -3dB at 3kHz at the moment to see if I can hear/ appreciate the difference.

Quite hard to establish the truth, whether its a cynical ploy or a mitigation for microphone performance...
