Can the G91 output through the digital and analog outs at the same time or can it be set to play certain certain formats through the digital out and others through analog without hassle?

I would like to run my G91 digital to G68 for CDs or up to 24/96, but still be able to play 24/192 files DVD-A through the analog outputs.

Does your G68 have analog input?

Hi Albert,

All processors have analogue inputs. Am I missing something?

Regards,
Carl

Hi,
Can I just clarify what you are trying to do?
Are you going to connect the G91 MHR/multichannel digital out into the G68 and then also connect the G91 analogue output to one of the G68 analogue inputs?
I don't think that the G91 will allow you to do this simply.
I had a read through the manual (located in Duncan's Meridian Info) and you have to set the type of the G91 to change from MHR output (types 3,4 & 5 use MHR). Type 0 is for analogue outputs.
I theory then, you would have to change types to swap over the outputs, which would be a pain.

You can combine analogue and digital outputs from the G91 to drive a pair of DSP speakers and a pair of analogue speakers. However, I don't think that this is what you are trying to achieve.

This is my personal account. My dealer account (Clever & Simple - Peter) is now up and running smile

The 568.2 and 861v4 have the analogue outputs active (at full scale) whilst the system is set for DSP usage, so there's the possibility that the G91 might just do this too. I think the only sure way to try this is to hook something up to the G91 analogue outputs (headphone amp? Old cassette deck?) and check for signal.

I'm assuming that you want to run these analogue outputs into a separate analogue system, and not via the G68?

Cheers

George

Sorry, my error, you've spotted I was thinking outputs as that's where the OP started.

There is nothing to be gained running the analogue outputs into the G68. If you have an analogue pre-amp then potentially there is some benefit to using the analogue for 192KHz but I would expect it to be one of preference rather than superiority.

Sorry all, my post was vague. I do have a analog preamp.

In my current set-up, at least when I get the G68 back from Meridian repair, is:

G91 digital out to G68 digital in.
G68 analog out to ATC actives (rears).
G68 analog out to the analog pre (which has a pass through for surround controller), then on to front speakers.

My TT phono-amp connects to the analog pre-amp for connection to front speakers.

The goal is to play 24/192 files that I burn to DVD-A through the analog outs in the G91 connected directly to the analog pre, so they are not downsampled, but still send CD and 24/96 to G68 for digital processing.

G68, G91, BAT 51se tube pre, ATC SCM50 tower (active) fronts, ATC SCM20a rear, Oppo, Apple TV, Sonos, Nottingham TT, Shunyata power condition and cords.
