The SVS SB13 ultras work extremely well in my system, they compliment the DSP6000's wonderfully. They have huge power with music, I'm sure for movies they would rock (the foundations).

I use an external DSP unit to correct the bass, I don't have MRC.
I recon having MRC and having to buy an analog output to run the DD12+, it makes more practical sense to get the DSW. It's the easiest solution.

I use a Velodyne DD15 with my 861v8. I think it is a fantastic sub and way better than the Meridian subs. The new DD12+ has the same output as the DD15 in a smaller enclosure. The onboard room correction is very flexible and works well with MRC.

The DD/DD+ are highly regarded throughout the audio industry.

My first preference is towards the Velo subs- no doubt.

However $$ comes into play- how much is price difference? I presume you are talking about 2 DSWs to 1 Velo Sub?

How big is your room?

Also you need to factor in Reviver/Syles adaptor for Velo older Meridian sub.

Out of curiosity have you tried a DSW? What does it lack?

Not had chance to try the Meridian sub in my system but have conversed with others who say that it cannot match the power output of the Velodyne or flexibility. The velodyne frequency plot is flat down to 15Hz. The servo mechanism on the Velodyne provides very low distortion which gives a tighter faster bass. As always you really need to audition both in the same system. The big advantage with the Velodyne is the on-board room correction this makes a huge difference in removing unwanted room nodes.The Meridian is not as easy to integrate into difficult rooms.

I am sticking with the DSW at this stage as I have plans to drop the 3200 off when I move to a larger system. It is always going to be easier to look at the DD+ again which hopefully I can demo the system then and compare.

I have never had the chance to try Meridian subs, but I have experiences a/b compare Jl 112 n Velodyne 12 plus, Jl hands down match with G68+HD621, especially on speed and reaction, it's so fast! However, it will be a little obvious on concert or music and not as easy as Velodyne blend in.

I have owned a DD12 before, the new "plus" was a lot faster than the DD old version.

I owned a Martin Logan decent and Elac 211D for now. I may add one more Elac to finish my 3 sub setup. If I have budget to re-organize my system, I guess I will take 2 x Jl 112 for HT with no doubt, the performance was just so great and super dynamic. The speed of JL makes the G68 to release all the potential out.

Three subs? Lot of MRC to do.

Basically, what will determine the dynamics or perceived dynamics of a sub are the way room nodes are dealt with, the flatness of the system (impulse response) and the power and motor of the sub.

The motor (magnet) is vital, it gives the sub the power to start and stop moving. If you put a 500KW motor and braking system in a 4000 lb car (big heavy cone with humungous magnet, the motor in this case is responsible for both braking and accelerating), it can perform much better in those aspects than, let's say, a 2000 lb car with 200KW motor (lighter cone but with small magnet). Obviously you have to have the fuel (amp power) to feed the motors.

Most music's bass has more than just a bass component, i.e. the hit of a drum has mid and HF - and if they are not in synch with the bass, the poor impulse response, which is a transform of the freq response, will make the bass seem slow.
Systems that measure well in the freq domain, will sound fast.

The more subs you have, the easier they are to set up as multiple subs tend to even out the room response. (I use 4 subs.)

Often a much better plan to use 2 lesser subs than one big one.

I have heard the JL audio gothams and fathoms , those are mighty subs. If I had the money and really wanted to do structural damage, I would buy a pair of either.

Room problems are the biggest issue with integrating subs, the more control over that that you have (MRC/DSP/more comprehensive sub internal controls) the better you can get it.

Acoustics, room treatment and good stuff is very good resource for setting up rooms and coping with the after effects of the sub.
