Hi all,
I need seriously help. I have a Meridian Null modem cable with a Startech Com USB to RS232 which works perfectly with my G91A and G95. My PC is a Dell with Windows 7 Professional.
The 861 is identified by the computer as a 3.51 but by the display as a 4.21. When I try to fetch the 861 is identified on the COM port but then I get the Message "Can't find Product on COM 1 - could not claim port - in use by another app.
I have been checking out the forum for nearly a year, talked to the local M distibutor on the phone and tried basically everything. this is my last try!
Hope help is near! Bakken

Hi,
If this is an early v4 you need to use the Meridian Legacy configuration program.
The new Mconfig program will not work.
Early v4's used the older Configuration application and then after a software update could then use the Mconfig program.
When you download the All-In-One installer set up this should allow installation of the Legacy software.

Thank You for answering.
I have tried both programs in their newest editions to no avail. Both fail including on my 561 1.7.

Hi,
Can you check the COM port that the adapter is putting itself on, These adapters usually choose high comm port numbers.
The legacy program can only deal with Comm 1, 2, 3 & 4 you need to make sure the comm port is actually one of those and then setup in the options menu.
The other issue I have seen before is some of these USB adapters are not well supported with the legacy configuration.
The best adapter I have used and one we would recommend when I worked at Meridian was the Keyspan adapter. These are very reliable and have non of the timing issues some of the other adapters have.

Hi,
The adapter is putting itself on COM 5, 6 or 7 on the Laptop. How do I change their identity to 1-4? on the Laptop.
Regarding the other issue this adapter was recommended in these pages and on the Meridian Unplugged so that's why I went for it.

Hi
You should be able to change the COM port.
This is done in Windows Control Panel > System Settings > Device Manager > Click on the Comm Port > you should be then able to modify the port number within one of the tabs.
(Some adapters come with an application to change the port number.)
Once you get the port number changed to either 1, 2, 3 or 4 then make sure you configure the legacy configuration program to use that.
Hopefully that will then resolve the ability to talk to the products.
Regards Edd

The Startech adaptor uses the FTDI chipset just like I believe the keyspan does so is pretty stable too. I'm using the Startech for data comms for the current Rugby League World Cup and I've had no problems reported even when used under extreme conditions - several 000m over twisted pair via rs422/232 converter.
A good thing with this adaptor is that the comm port doesn't change all by itself, so once you have configured kit to use a certain com port it will remain the same port. You need to change com port in windows device manager.
I've had mixed results with prolific chipset based adaptors to the point that Meridian made a s/w change to cope - the threshold/interval settings. Early versions of the chipset don't appear to work particularly well in OSX environment either.
Meridian owner since 1992 Prime & PSU, Focal Elear headphones, Roon (ROCK 8Gi5 NUC), Explorer 1 & 2, F80. 200/203, various Sonos (via Roon).

Hi again,
A bit tricky this. There is only one COM port and that is a PCI port with 15 pins. The others are USB (mass Storage, generic, enhanced, root etc,) with Three contacts. Do I inactivate any of these and then change Com-settings? I use an USB converter not a PCI.

Hi, All you need to do is go to windows device manager click on the comm port (Under Comms & LPT) and in the settings you can change the comm port number. Windows Control Panel > System Settings > Device Manager > Click on the Comm Port & LPT ports > Then double click the comm port the adapter is on now. It will bring up a screen which has a drop down menu to change its port number. This Link May HelpRegards Edd
