When using a Sooloos device what is the best format to download from HDTracks?

It handles FLAC up to 24/192 (although these will be downsampled to 96kHz on playback). WAV is fine as well.

Page 48 of the Advanced Sooloos Collection Guide has the details.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Hi,

Use FLAC if clipping doesen`t bother you.
Many of the new releases has 0 dynamic range and are also having up 70.000 clippings in one song.
Like Justin Timberlakes lates 20/20 part 2 album.

If you want to gain adjust with iZotope RX3 or some other program download AIFF.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi PerS,

Surly this is down to the mastering process (loudness wars) and not the file format.

Regards,
Carl

Also there is absolutely nothing wrong with clipping, it's transient crushing you want to avoid, where the waveform hits 0dB for several successive samples. 70,000 isolated samples that reach 0dB shouldn't pose a problem with a Meridian DAC, especially when dithered from 16 bits to 24.

70000 clippings? How is this indicated?

Does the downsampling occur even when 'force 1x sample rate' is checked? For both SPDIF and AES (via SpeakerLink)?

Hi

Yes, it will always downsample to 24/96 for its digital output.

Am I right in saying that Force 1x would result in 2 downsamples.

Once by core software downsampling 192/24 etc. to 96/24
Second in hardware/Xcore by audio endpoint to 44/48k.

I thought force 1x would produce 44.1KHz for 44.1KHz input and 96KHz for 96KHz input.

That is correct. I was hoping 192KHz for 192KHz as well frown
