Great to know there is someone there who can keep our kit running. It also makes it much easier to recommend used kit to others and I hope you are hugely successful

A big thumbs-up from me.
Possibly, I can get a definitive answer on if my G95 is repairable (enquiry form completed).

A false dawn (!) Just received a response stating that my G95 cannot be repaired due to lack of spare parts.

Apologies, Most of the G95 parts are now unavailable or we cannot trust.
So sorry if we gave false hope we didn't mean too.
Thanks Mr Tech Guy

I think a list of those Meridian items that cannot be repaired would be extremely useful.

Very glad to find out about MrTechGuy. Been in touch via the website and my 506 CD Player is already boxed and ready for despatch tomorrow. I can understand that for some, it may seem a little odd to keep going with old/classic hifi but there's some sentimental attachment plus our house move means for the first time I've got somewhere to use the whole system laid out in the classic "either side of the fireplace" config. It's good to, at long last, hear it working as intended (did I mention it was our first detached house so the guilt factor is way down ). BTW, the A500 speakers are really rather good. Now everything is properly laid out, I can hear detail in some of my favourite CDs and LPs that I've not heard before. Getting all this hooked up to local FLAC store and streaming is a work-in-progress. Once the 506 CD is back. need to see if the 504 is needed for the FM or if radio via Freeview is practical as I've run out of inputs on the 551! Had it not been for the advice and links here, would have had to give up a while back so thanks, Meridian Unplugged. Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike.
Great to hear that your beloved 500 kit is still giving a lot of pleasure. I get the bit about sentimental attachment to the old 500 stuff; there is something very elegant & completely timeless about the styling of them; real design classics. You should be able to pick up a 501 for not much money that would give you more inputs. I think that would be the way to go (but open to correction).
Cinema: Meridian 271, 3 x DSP640 (behind screen), 4 x DSP320 (in-ceiling), 4 x DSP3100 (surrounds), 2 x AC12 (interface). 2 x Perlisten D12s subs, Lyngdorf MP40 processor. DT 145" 2.35 AT screen. Sony VW870 projector & S-T lens, Lumagen Radiance Pro. Lounge: Roon, NUC, Kef LS50 Wireless + 2 x REL Gibraltar-2 subs

I clicked the notify button, but it took to a page where nothing else seemed to happen!
I have just recapped and sorted out the overheated power resistors (that Meridian elected to use as a cheap and nasty way to invoke a rater crude power supply) for a friend's 5000s. He's thrilled with the outcome, he says they are now better sounding than his 5200s! Mind you, these are really special components.
I guess I would be prepared to offer an upgrade service, but don't expect me to cut corners on the quality of the components I've selected, and I'm guessing it's a couple of hours work per speaker, so it won't be a bargain basement price; but nor are Meridian speakers in the first place. It's the shipping costs that may be prohibitive though.
Having said all that, you'd get years more service (assuming the rest of the original silicon components don't give up!) and hopefully you might agree with my mate, who thinks there is an improvement in the audio quality.
I assume there will be similar components in the other Meridian active speakers, so other models could have similar treatments to keep 'em breathing.
It's not limited there - I've just upgraded the capacitors in my favourite 601 DSP preamp, my 602 transport is next and I suspect the amazing 604 tuner will also benefit (I actually think this is the best component Meridian have ever made - so this could be a route to actually make the best even better!! - we'll see).
I also made him my own version of a cat5 link to replace the standard Meridian comms and SPDIF signal cable - he has RJ45 outlets in every corner of the room and wanted (well his better half insisted) to get rid of trailing cables 'round the room.
This is nothing like Meridian SpeakerLink, being a proper active driven transmitter and receiver pair IT IS NOT compatible with the Meridian SpeakerLink or ethernet switches etc. While being a prototype at the moment, it has scope for development. I've not tried it over great distances, but I suspect it could be refined to achieve transmission over several hundred yards - it may already do so, I didn't have that much cat5 to test it with.
It would of course work equally well for analogue signals, using broadcast grade components.
It is not just limited to Meridian digital systems.
Finally I'm developing a super low noise, super stable linear power supply for the G68 that is my main 'pre amp'. It's 5 or 6 amps for the five volt rail, 2 to 3 amps for +/-12v rail (-12v only really needs to be half an amp, but it's capable of the same current delivery as the positive rail). Again it's not just limited to the G68, any device that has similar DC requirements will benefit.
