I've never calibrated my system and I'd like to play around with this over Xmas. Which SPL meter do people recommend, something with UK availability?
Maplin are offering a digital one, code TB57M, for 35 pounds. The measurement range seems OK, but accuracy is given as +/- 2dB which doesn't sound very accurate at all to me. That's a 4 dB margin of error. If a 10 dB difference is supposed to seem twice as loud then this seems a bit vague. Any thoughts on this?
N.B. processor is 568 so I don't need to worry about an SPL good enough to be input to room correction!

For MRC, all you need is an SPL meter that's consistent. In the states, the Radio Shack SPL meter, which goes for about US$35 (20 lbs, give or take) works perfectly for MRC... As long as it produces consistent readings you'll be ok as well, I used the same meter when I had the 568.2 ![[Linked Image from softronix.com]](http://www.softronix.com/ubb/smile.gif) Cheers,

the problem of cheap SPL meters is bad accuracy and measuring up to 10khz.
for home setup it should be good enough.
for professional apps there better equipment exist. but it cost much more than 30$. at eBay you can see from time to time this stuff for few hundreds $$$$ - you can imagine how much does it cost "new".

@All, compared the Radio shack to my mikes ( special AKG made for V3.0 of MC-12) and i have the strong feeling that there must be something outside better and more reliable.Keep my eyes open and give info if i found one.

mine is a bulk standard radio shack.
M told me the SPL meter has no effect on the measurements as this is calculated by the pc and 861 so was told an expensive SPL wasn't needed,
I still got hold of an expenve SPL meter and it made little differance so I stuck with the radio shack meter.
Don't ask me the make it was onloan to me from a studio mate.

Just bought a (non digital readout) Radio Shack a month or so ago & it works fine.
It displaced an expensive Ivie that had developed too much internal noise to use for room correction. A friend is going top look at repairing it for me but the parts are packed in so tight it is a nightmare to work upon. However, even after nearly 25 years, the manufacturer still exists and sent me a circuit at no charge. They no longer make this smaller unit.
