I've been offered a G98 for a very reasonable price. According to the seller, the G98 was recently serviced and the optical drive was replaced. Does anyone know whether this means that the G98 will no longer be able to play DVD-Audio discs? I thought I read in a forum post that certain repairs to G series DVD players resulted in a loss of DVD-Audio playback capability.

Dolstein,

As I understand it, changing the drive ought not impact the ability to play DVD-A.

The issue has been caused by the failure and replacement of the chipset.

See this thread for more details.

Best way to check is play a DVD-A on the unit.

I recently had the optical drive on my G98 replaced and it still runs DVDA fine. As said in the previous post its the chip that is the issue

I had the board fix installed in a G98 I had owned because the display would read NO CPPM Key. After repair it would play the disc fine although it would not indicate that it was playing a DVD Audio disc.

That sounds like it was just playing the DVD tracks and not the DVD-A tracks. When playing did you check what the sample rate was?

Carl
