If you've ever looked inside a TwinStore you may have noticed there's an empty RAM slot. I've been wondering if adding RAM to the TwinStore would make any improvements. There are two RAM slots, one has a 1GB RAM card in it and one is empty.
Today I did it, just upgraded my TwinStore to 2GB RAM.
I used to have a problem with my Sooloos system "locking up" when rapidly changing from CD quality albums to high res albums several times (comparing sound quality of recordings). When this " lock up" happend no tracks would play until I rebooted my system. Since I put the 2TB RAM in my TwinStore I have not been able to duplicate this condition, this would seem to show some stability improvement.
Anyone else add RAM to a TwinStore or any other MDMS Sooloos components? Any thought on doing this?

Hi Victor,
From what I read, does it mean the ADDITIONAL 1GB of RAM (making it two) resolved your issue?
How about making it four (2GB x 2)? I would go that way if its not too costly.
By the way, do you happen to know if this can apply to the MD600/MS600? And also what's in there? (Like 1GB for the TwinStore ...).
Seriously, I am a tweaking idiot but would love to try anything to improve the performance.
Cheers!

How about making it four (2GB x 2)? I would go that way if its not too costly. I did try putting in 2GB x 2 RAM but the TwinStore would not work with 4GB RAM, 1GB x 2 for a total of 2GB RAM seems to be the maximum for the TwinStore. By the way, do you happen to know if this can apply to the MD600/MS600? And also what's in there? (Like 1GB for the Twinstore ...). I have not seen a MD600 or MS600 in person yet, I'm not sure what is in those boxes. Seriously, I am a tweaking idiot but would love to try anything to improve the performance. I'm right there with you, I have a few other ideas for the TwinStore and I'll take my C10 apart soon to see if I can add more RAM in there or other updates.

Is that the RAM just below the heatsink in this Picture? It looks like there's a spare slot, but I've not seen standard RAM like that before. 203-pin DDR-3 SODIMM? You can kiss goodbye to your warranty if you install any, I'm sure.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Yes, that is the RAM in that picture. So it looks like you can also add RAM to a MD600. The easiest thing to do is pull out the existing RAM and bring it to a computer shop to match up. I would recommend getting 2 new RAM cards if you add RAM so the RAM cards are a matched pair.
Yes, I would say this would void the warranty, my TwinStores are over 3 years old, I think I'm already out of warranty on mine. This would be a do it at your own risk upgrade.
The RAM in the TwinStore is laptop 1GB PC2 200 pin DDR2 667MHz, this is readly available RAM that is cheap, I got mine for $13 per GB.

I just added another 1GB to my RM TwinStore, I believe it was 800MHz RAM.
Nothing really stands out as of now performance wise...

I just tried doing something that has given me trouble in the past, I just loaded 3 24 bit 192kHz albums while playing a 24 bit 192kHz album. The first one loaded great, the second one was a bit slower and the last one really slowed down.
This is similar results as when there was 1GB RAM in my TwinStore, it may be a little better with the 2GB RAM but it's probably a good idea not playing high res while loading high res files.

For anyone who wants to add RAM to a TwinStore here is a pic Inside Twinstore You can see the existing RAM just to the right of the big black heatsink. The heatsink is in the way and needs to be removed to add the second RAM board. Just remove the 4 screws with the springs on them (you can leave the fan on the heatsink) then twist and lift the heatsink off. The heatsink has thermal compound on it so it will stick to the processor, be gentle but firm and it will come off. There is a CR2032 battery in there also (middle bottom of pic), if your TwinStore is over 2 years old might as will put in a fresh battery while you are in there. I have no idea what this battery is for.

I just tried upgrading the RAM in my Control:10 to 4GB, unfortunately it did not work. The Control:10 has 2GB RAM in it, I guess that is already the maximum RAM the Control:10 can use.
Just wanted to let everyone know.
