Thanks for the help so far, even though I still cannot wire as "home run".

I verified I only have one controller; I have the 5200s/5200HC set to no controller, the G61RSL set to controller and the 598 auto's to non-controller. Unfortunately this hasn't changed the result.

Can anyone explain the signalling between master and slave comms?

I read there is a separate connection for master and slave in the SL socket. Does the control signal get sent to the master, which then relays to all slaves? If so, how can a 3200 (which has no master/slave switch) know it should answer as a master or slave?

If the 3200 is dumb and responds to either comms, then it must be up to the G61RSL to prevent the master comms to be sent to the slave. The Meridian config allows the master to be specified; when I change it I cannot see a change in the system behaviour.

Is this still a problem? I have almost the same setup as yourself successfully wired in a home run topology. I briefly had an issue with comms but setting the G61RSLto non-controller in the configuration program and holding down clear to make the centre master speaker the controller solved that.

Let me know if you need any help and I can always send you my configuration if needs be. I know that you are trying to make the G61 the controller as opposed to a speaker so maybe that is significant.

For what it is worth I was advised that Meridian recommend a home run topology for sound quality and I think that the logic is sound. As such I would persevere with trying to get the comms working in a home run topology especially as it seems to work for me. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

I haven't got it working in home run, but I have done some more investigation with my current setup where the G61RSL is controller and the right master DSP5200 is non-controller. I have kept the G61RSL as controller as it is connected to a 598. Maybe I should setup the 5200 as controller and disconnect the 598 just to make sure.

Anyway, this is what I have found out so far...

I reconfigured the speaker settings on my G61RSL for 4 surrounds then tested the comms on each SpeakerLink port by pressing the mute key and looking at the Master and Slave comms line on that port.

The only difference I can see between the port designated as Master in the Config is that port only supplies a signal on the Master comms line; nothing is supplied on the Slave line. All other ports supply both Master comms and Slave comms except the rear master socket, which supplies no comms at all.

So the problem is linked to a single socket on the G61RSL and thus appears to be a problem with that port.

G61RSL comms when Mute is pressed

The problem turned out to be a faulty SpeakerLink card in my G61RSL. It has just returned from Meridian and now works perfectly.

I would like to thank everyone who helped me with this problem.
