I am trying to add a pair of DSP3200s to a G61RSL and finding they stop the comms.
I have the left connected to the lower SpeakerLink connection and the right to the upper of the rear surround RJ45s. Once I connect the lower, the only speaker which responds to the volume is the master left DSP5200.
As a test I connected the 3200s as left and right main speakers without any others they respond correctly to volume. If I add in a slave 5200HC and DSW, the volume on the 5200HC does not work.
My plan is to have the left 5200 running as master, the others as slaves.
How do the 3200s identify master or slave? The Meridian manual only mentions the left/right switch. Are there any compatibility issues to be aware of?
I see the problem with "home run" cabling as one of the DSP3200s is connected to the master SL rear surround socket.
As Russ suggested, I tried connecting the 3200s as "daisy chain" to the slave SL surround and the comms & 3200s both work ok. This gives me a workaround, but I have already wired the room for "home run" so I'd prefer not to rewire as "daisy chain".
The configuration program has the master set to the front left speaker 5200 speaker.
To summarise, if I connect either 3200 into a lower master SL, the problem occurs, if it's in the upper slave SL it and the comms works ok. BTW I am connecting to the 3200s input
I assume you have the switches on the DSP3200's set appropriately? I have my DSP3200's (all speakers) wired home run as you saw when you visited and it worked first time.
I was wondering if you had any such installation issues.
I only see a single toggle switch on each DSP3200 to switch between L/C and R.
I don't understand how a DSP3200 can tell if it should be master or not. What is the difference in a Master SL to a Slave SL socket? Is it up to the configuration in the G61RSL to prevent sending the Master comms to other speakers, or is the Master comms sent to any speakers connected in the lower SL sockets?
If I replace the front 5200 speakers with the two 3200s they work fine, but the centre / sub are not controlled.
I tried a new config with the right 5200 speaker setup as the master with the matching swap of its cable to its master SL socket, plus a changing the designated master in the Meridian config to front right. The end result is the same as my test yesterday - connecting either 3200 into the rear master SL socket causes the comms to only control the master speaker, but wiring the 3200s daisy chained via the rear slave SL socket works fine.
I tried one other test config with the 5200HC set to master, but neither 5200 would come out of standby, that's with the 3200s disconnected.
You must reset the speakers and the processor so there is only 1 controller. This might be the problem. Press Clear on the MSR remote while everything is in standby. The processor should print "Con" and Master DSP "Non Con".
I thought SpeakerLink cabling solved most straight forward comms issues... it would be curious to hear the issue for this problem.
