Quad 63s are my speaker of choice for detail.
I like my Meridian D6Ks for musical experience and woody weight. The bottom end can be a little overblown, replacement of the drivers with more modern units is out of the question at the moment.

The bass does not have to be soggy, my 18" Volt sub with the Quads is not soggy.
Normally a better tweeter or mid range can make the bass faster.
A strange trueism.
