Greetings,

This is a corollary post to my inquiry about "minimal network requirements". My situation is that I will on a company assignment for 6 months living out of a hotel room. I am thinking about bringing along my MC200 as a music source.

Does anyone know if I can connect a Meridian Explorer to the USB expansion port on the MC200?

It's probably wishful thinking but I am hoping to connect the Explorer to the MC200 USB output and use the Explorer to drive my headphones.

Any help is appreciated.

No you can't. It's been asked but dismissed by Meridian as an option. It's personally top of my Sooloos wish list and potentially relatively trivial to do if you had access to the MC200 system software in order to install the drivers.

Hi

Why not connect the analogue phono output to a headphone amp?

Surely the MC200 DAC is superior to an Explorer?

Given that you need a laptop to control the MC200 anyway, why not connect a Meridian Explorer to the laptop and listen that way?

Thanks to all for your advice. My fallback plan is to use a dedicated headphone amp connected to the MC200's RCA analog outputs.

The reason for my USB connection inquiry was to leverage the Explorer. If possible, I figured I would connect it to the MC200 for "in hotel" listening and then take it with me for use with my PC laptop while traveling.

As I understand it I don't need to connect the MC200 to a computer/laptop. I think that I can simply connect the MC200 to a wireless router and select music via the iPad interface. Of course I won't be able to import new music or get updates that way, but my assignment is temporary.

This is an old thread but the same thought occurred to me. Would this be something Meridian may implement in the future to make an easy way to decode MQA content from Sooloos/Roon in the future.
Thoughts, Chris
