My mostly-Meridian cinema system has suddenly started playing up for no apparent reason. Basically I seem to be losing the picture (sound seems fine) intermittently/momentarily when playing DVD's and BluRays. Black screen / HDMI "Out of Range".
HDMI from Oppo to HD621 and then on to the MF10. All very standard.
Nothing's been changed, "upgraded" or otherwise tampered with, and the system has been as solid as a rock since installation. I suspect some sort of HDMI handshaking issue, but don't see how this could arise without changes to the system. Where would you start?

Ian, Can you swap out the Oppo to see if the fault goes away. That may localise your fault to either the player or your system. Just a starting thought, Chris

Hi,
Have you checked that the HDMI cables are fully plugged in and secure.
As you are not getting any audio dropout it suggests you should concentrate on HD621 to MF10.
Does it recover by itself or do you have to intervene?

Hi there and thank you both for responding.
It recovers itself. What I get is the screen going blank other than the HDMI "Out of Range" message in the top right hand corner for a second or so before it sorts itself out.
I've checked the HDMI cables - no obvious problems.
Chris - I've got an old LG Bluray player somewhere, which I'll swap in to see if the Oppo is the problem.
Good point about concentrating on HD621 to MF10 - which is via HDMI. I had two cables put in before the plastering was finished, so will try swapping these around.
Is there any history of HD621's failing?

I used to have serious issues with an HDMI to DVI cable I had plastered into the wall before I even had an HDMI source. Turned out the cable was no good for handshaking.
Issue was solved with a Gefen HDMI Plus detective but I spent many years with an HDMI cable trailing in front of the plaster until I discovered the solution.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.
