I finally managed to get vMSR working with an alternate IP to a Serial convertor which doesn't have a configuration web page.

A lot of trial and error for me (with limited n/w knowledge) but turns out to be not too difficult. Certainly not plug and play like the Global Cache products - no beacon to find.

I must say big thanks to Rick and team for vMSR, it looks good and works well.

Hi

Well done, what was the 'other' device?

Cheers

Can the vMSR control a 602 transport within my newer Meridian system?

Also does the vMSR work only with the iPad 2 and newer models, and not the iPad 1?

The older version of vMSR works just fine on iPad1s. You lose the quick switch button to Core Control and key renaming.

Yep, only the older version of vMSR works on an iPad 1. Latest iOS for the iPad 1 is 5.1.1 where as the new version of vMSR requires iOS 6.0 or above. frown

Ok great so an iPad 3 "Mini" would also work with the latest software version of the vMSR.

G65, HD621, 2 x 5k2SL, 1 x 5k2SLVC, 3 x 5k2, 602 transport, Oppo BDP-93, Sony PS3, Xbox360, Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD, Velodyne SMS-1 + 2 x SPLR 1200 subs, 4 x Clark Synthesis Platinum Tactile Sound Transducers powered by one Audiolab 8000P, and two Marantz MA500 mono amps, Runco RS-900 DLP projector, Stewart Studiotek 130 screen.

Any chance of support for the MS200 as well as the Global Cache devices? (You can telnet to it and issue some comms commands, although status display might not be so easy)

Unfortunately RS232 won't work for me (RS232 port stops working after a while on my 568.2, and turning it off/on again gets a bit tedious) so a Meridian Comms solution would be nice.

Can the vMSR app stay on all the time... meaning if I'm watching a movie and leave the iPad inactive for 45-60 minutes does it stay on the vMSR app ready to be used or does go off?

Got my IP2SL today...

Having read most of the thread on the vMSR a while back I think it was suggested that the IP2SL be connected to the controller which I assume would be in my case my G65 although they do say it can be connected to a DSP5200.

Now my equipment rack where the G65 (and all other equipment) is located is at the rear of the room leaving only my three 5200s at the front (plus 2 subs).

So if I make the G65 behind me the controller and plug the IP2SL into it, will it still work in picking up the iPads signals or would I be better served by hooking up the IP2SL to my present controller the centre channel?

TIA

Your iPad will not communicate directly with your IP2SL, they will communicate via your local data network. IP2SL is connected with a cable, so it doesn't matter if it's hidden. The iPad connects over WiFi, so as long as you have a good signal you can control your Meridian equipment.

Just having at look at vMSR but the app isn't currently available at the uk store. Have I missed something?
