Before I order more disks or call the dealer let me ask here first.

The disk pairs I am trying are (yes, they are not on the 'list'):
- Seagate ST32000645NS
- WD30EFRX

All two pairs have been tested and used in QNAP without problems - I am 100% sure they are good. I am NOT mixing the disks - using WD pair or SG pair.

When I insert both disks in the MD600, both disk lights blink, MD600 is not seen in C15 or Config:PC or Control:PC.

When I insert only the left disk, both disk lights blink, MD600 is shown on C15 and Config:PC and Control:PC - with 0 storage.

In order to access logs, I've made MD600 core via ConfigPC, turned off C15.

As far as I can tell, there are no errors in the logs but there is no storage shown either.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated - though I won't be able to try until much later.

Are you saying these are fresh blank discs, unformatted on insertion? Or do they contain a Sooloos library? Or?...

Insert freshly formatted HDD. The MD600 should then format and sort it out.

I assume you are Raid1 ? If so, the MD600 will take a while sorting out the HDD partnership. So, give it time to do that. Then the storage will be recognised.

Hello Ikarus_CT

Assuming these disks were new? I have found that disks formatted in a QNAP NAS will not format in an MD600 (many hours of frustration mad ) if you have a way of formatting these on/in a PC in NTFS, then I would do that, then insert them into the MD600, you must have two drives in before you power it on, it then goes through its bootup, flashing various LEDs, then if it begins the format you should see LEDs flashing left to right and back, sort of like the Knight Rider car!! This should complete in 10 to 15 minutes.

Cheers

Russ

They were previously used in QNAP as Raid 1. I wanted to use them in MD600 as Raid 1 as well.

Initially I've inserted WD's around 9pm my time. At 3am, the disk lights were still blinking and MD600 was not shown anywhere.

I can re-format them if needed - I have the equipment. If I should, what kind of format is needed? NTFS, Fat32, ...?

Thanks Russ.

Yes, they were formatted in QNAP. I'll reformat and try tonight.

Hi Ikarus_CT

Ok, good luck. After inserting the disks the format should start on boot-up and complete within 5 to 10 minutes maximum, it certainly doesn't take hours to begin.

Keep us all updated on your progress, lots of very experienced helpful people available to help.

Cheers

When formatting, all the lights blink. There are six or so. It does an unexpectedly adorable Knight Rider thing from left to right while formatting.

I even videoed it if you want to see it in action. wink

Which two are lighting up?

4 and 5 would indicate drive problems which just goes to confirm what's said above about drives already formatted in other RAID enclosures.

Well have you seen how cute it is? laugh

(I only videoed a few seconds, not the whole format. Now THAT would have been weird...)
