I have just sold my 568/562.V2 in favor of an 861. Mine is a V4 upgrade. While switching between sources this evening, the 861 seemed to lock up (no audio from any source). I cycled the on/off switch on the back and that seemed to clear the system and reset so to speak.
I had grown used to cycling the on/off switch of the 568 for the purposes of connecting to my computer, but I do not ever remember using the on/off switch to sort of reset the system. Is this something that is particular to the 861? Might I have done something that caused it to lock?

I've noticed that if I send vol changes in rapid seq, the system locks up and I need to turn the system off and restart. I'm using a crestron to

I've been using an 861 for a while (v2, then v3, now v4), always controlled via an AMX NetLinx automation system.
I did have problems where, intermittently, when switching sources, I'd lose audio. I worked with Meridian (Atlanta), and by taking notes of things to try when it occurred again, Ken Forsythe was able to isolate the problem to a specific chip on a specific card. We replaced the card, and I've had no problems since then.
If your problem persists, but isn't reproducable at will, give Meridian a call and ask for help. If it does reproduce at will, that should be even easier to isolate.
By the way, I do volume ramping with the NetLinx automation system, and I can easily adjust volume as much as 10db/second in a high speed ramp. I have never, once, had a "system lock up" because of that. As the Meridian ramps the volume up (or down), I see a bargraph on my touchpanel showing where the volume is. It works like a champ.

fwiw, i've never had a single problem like this my 861.3 in about a year or so of use. i control it RS232 via crestron and sometimes manually and via the MSR when i'm right in front of it (the boss has a way of bringing and leaving the crestron controller remote upstairs - sigh - i just work here).
the only oddity i have is that if i shut the unit off by hand, when i try to turn it on by selecting a source via crestron, i have to do it twice to get it to respond.
other than that one tiny little stupid thing, the damn unit has been ROCK solid.
doody.

Well that is interesting. I was almost hoping that it was just something that can happen on occation. Any hints from the fact that cycling the on off switch on the back unlocked it?
I would hate to think that one lousy chip on a card is going to force me to pack it up and send it back to Meridian as it just came from there having just done the V4 upgrade.

I would hate to think that one lousy chip on a card is going to force me to pack it up and send it back to Meridian as it just came from there having just done the V4 upgrade. I never did that. When Meridian worked with me to isolate what was going on, they direct-shipped me the replacement card. I put it in myself (trivial to pull the old and put in the new), retyped the unit according to their instructions, and that was that. Never had another problem. Call Meridian if you're having problems. That's far more effective than posting here if you have a hardware problem.
