R,

I understand your perspective with respect to selling DVD-Audio to the audiophile community where stereo is still the leader.

However, for non-audiophiles the higher resolution is unimportant for them. This constitutes the vast majority of the market.

For non-audiophiles, surround sound is an immediate difference that they will understand right away. This is why (IMO) the surround aspect is being "marketed" more strongly.

I can't speak for others, but I don't listen to plain stereo anymore with my M kit -- I use Trifield for all stereo sources.

Regards,

here are my current favourites: please keep in mind these will tell you my music taste:

1. yes, fragile. I actually like the 5.1 mix on this. it sounds soooooooo good

2. fleetwood mac, rumors. I prefer the 2 channel mix through Trifield

3. doors, la woman, as is said before, it dpeneds on the track, but especially on Riders the 5.1 mix is good.

Best regards,
Jerry

John, I'm curious to know why you only use Trifield for all stereo sources rather than any other setting (music for one) for different music types?

Brian,

I should be more clear. I use Trifield for all stereo music. Especially with a matched triad up front, it's the best solution (IMO).

For TV/DVD viewing provided in Stereo, I use DPL-2/Cinema.

Hotel Calif. is also Jaw Dropping.

If you think listening to music is fun, try learning an instrument.

I want to update a DVD-A I just tried and I am very impressed with:

Crowed House

its the group from the late 80s. Very impressive sonics and 5.1 mix. Actually- for my tastes Id say this is perhaps the best use of the 5.1 format for music. I began by listening to the 2 well known songs and I found myself continuing to listen.

If you like the music, I would highly recommend this disc.

Brian,

Sorry for the slow reply.

I tried all the various options, and I keep coming back to Trifield as the most pleasing to my ears.

Hello Everyone,
I was searching through the previous-(first closed Hitchikers) and I noticed a couple of posters that said that they had received three DVD-A's with their (upgrades)??? Or did they only come with (new 861/800 purchase)? Since I am expecting my units soon I was wondering if they might be included. Did anyone here receive those sampler disks from M and which way new or upgrade?

I got 3 sampler discs with my 596->598DP upgrade. One is a "About DVD-Audio" disc and the other two are classical, one of these included test tones and other setup bits tagged on the end.
