Hi All -

I currently have a Meridian 861v4 driving 5 Meridian DSPs and a subwoofer. An HD621 is feeding that with my HDMI sources. What I would like to do, in addition, is run a stereo mix out the analog outputs into another room.

Is this achievable? I realize that using the surround DSPs on the 861 concurrently wouldn't work. I'd don't really need them to run concurrently, just be easily switchable.

Thanks,
Andrew

Assuming that you are talking about a stereo downmix from the Oppo, I think the only place from where you'd be able achieve that would be the Oppo analogue outputs. If you have analogue output cards on the 861 they would presumably mirror the individual DSP channels, so not possible to have a downmix within the 861.

If you have a TP00 card (which can provide an additional zone), you could connect the Oppo analogue output to the 861, and use it as the source for the second zone. Anything which comes via the HD621 will be MHR encrypted, and the TP00 card won't recognise it.

But then again, I may be completely misunderstanding what you are trying to do!

Cheers

Thanks Mr. Meridian

Essentially what I am trying to do is create a second mix of everything going out to my Meridian speakers, as a stereo downmix that I can run to a different room. Audio quality for the second room is not crucial. I have the unbalanced analog output card and have setup a stereo amplifier in mconfig.

Assuming I can't create a stereo mix via the 861 concurrently, maybe I can connect a mixer to the 4 analog outputs and mix down myself?

Does that make sense?

Would your budget stretch to a 568.1 in the second room? Then you could send a bitstream signal through and let it do the decoding and downmix for your amp. Can't remember if the 561 will handle MHR (maybe the 561M IIRC) but if it can, that would be a lower cost option.

Cheers

I would, however, it won't work in my current setup because I am splitting the video out of the 861 and wirelessly broadcasting the video and audio to another room.

I have the video part figured out but from reading it seems I need a TP00 card for an additional zone/stereo mix? Would this work?

Also, if I purchased a TP00 do I need any other cards with that to operate correctly?

Thanks,
Andrew

Never mind - just saw your previous post.

Looks like the TP00 won't solve my problem.

I would go for the SPDIF output. I know that you need a DAC module to connect it to your analoge setup in the other room.

Because the SQ is not that important you could buy a cheap DAC to solve your problem.

Digital transport is much better the long analoge transport.
