Ello Mates,
You may recall my popular tread in 2006 about the volume level of D or DSP 6000's. It was simply that in a large room, these speakers go into "protective" mode after only 20 minutes of playing at 75 or higher. I can CONCLUSIVELY verify this as I just purchased another pair for $1900'on eBay (my 3rd set), with original boxes, and they look like they have never been used. SAME issue with volume, they can only play at 65 or lower for any extended time over 30-40 minutes.
You might ask, 'why did I purchase another pair' (my third)? Great question, I did not lose any money on the other 2 pairs selling them to lower volume / smaller room Meridianites.
MAIN QUESTION PLEASE:
I'm trying to lower the bass on the 6000 R/L speakers by adding my DSP5000C for Trifield and connect my current Velodyne DD-18 to see if I can "balance" out the sound and allow the main 6000 R/L to possibly run cooler and extend my volume to 75 without protective mode.
I've tried connecting a good cable from the Analogue Out on 565 to In on DD-18 (my DD-18 works on my analogue system by Pre-Out on Receiver to In on DD-18). No sound this way or by using either of the 2 RCA jacks labeled "Sub / other speaker."
I think I can connect my sub to the 565, but maybe not?
Thanks in advance for your advice,
Dave

I believe the sub out on the 565 (analogue output number 4) should work providing you have enabled subwoofer use within the Meridian configuration programme.
In my system the sub output is only used for .1 so does not work when listening to 2 channel material. This can be changed.
Good luck

Thanks Brian,
I've read both the 565 & D6000 manuals, but do not recall how to enable the subwoofer within the Merdiian Configuration Program, might it be easy enough to tell me, or should I wait and call Meridian Monday?

Hi Dave
All I could have done is point you towards the user manual which has been sent. I struggle with the set up myself so didn't want to attempt more than point you in the right direction.
Once set up Meridian equipment is fantastic.
Good Luck

Looking at Page 31 of that 565 Manual you can set up protection for the speakers.
Perhaps this is set incorrectly on your 565 and is turning off the speakers? For DSP speakers it should be set to "max".
Long shot I know.

Something is definitely wrong in your system. I run my 6000's at 80-90 all the time with no issues

Thanks to all so far, Still playing around trying to get 2 D6000's (not DSP), 500 CD player, 565 processor, DSP5000C and a Velo DD-18 just all working at any volume. All I can get so far is the 3 speakers just working with the CD alone. I'm getting older and my brain is not keeping up with Meridian As for the "something wrong" with the volume issue, I have a big high ceiling room and this is my 3rd set clipping out over 70dB . One thing is that even though the speakers read 70, my Radio Shack meter registers 88-90. In 2006, I actually had the talented Ken from Meridian Atlanta in my room and after checking everything and listening to a CD at 75 for 28 minutes, the speakers went into Protective Mode, his final verdict was "They are doing exactly what they were designed to do." When I play my JM Labs Focal Utopia BEs, I blast them all day long with ZERO issues except possibly going deaf

It seems to me that all of your problems must be solved in your 565. Through the configuration program you can set alot of things. Your DD18 can work fine with analoge output.
Meridian is very easy to setup when you are used to the program.
Is there no one near you who can help?
Regards Ronald
