Has anybody been successful installing Control:PC on Windows 8? It says I have to install .NET, which is already installed as part of the OS.

Hi Phil_H, Are both your machines running the same edition of Windows 8? eg: Basic, Pro or Enterprise? Russ

I just tested it on my wife's computer and it installed fine. Both are 64-bit, so that's not the problem. Mine is Pro, hers is not. Anybody have it installed successfully on Pro?

.NET 3.5 is what you need. Search for my post regarding Control:PC and Windows 8 for work instructions.

Mine is Windows 8 32 bit version and it appears to work fine (except export - but that may be a bug in the Control:PC software) /Marcus

Per Crion's advice, I installed .net version 3.5 and that took care of it. Thanks. It is a bad thing that the M installer didn't specify which .net version it wanted and just requested the latest version, which was already there. It is a strange thing that several machines were ok, one was not. From the replies, it seems others have equally random experiences. (Crion, I note you're from Stockholm. So am I, moved to the U.S. 35 years ago.)

I checked with the .NET team (I work at Microsoft). I did not like the random behavior, some machines install fine, some do not. As Crion pointed out, Control:PC needs .NET version 3. Turns out, Windows 8 includes both v.3 and v.4, but only v.4 is active. The OEMs (the computer manufacturers that deliver Windows-based computers) and some corporate IT department may choose to activate it -- this is the reason for the apparently random behavior. If the Control:PC install fails on your machine, you can just start Control Panel, select Programs, then Turn Windows features on or off, and select .NET 3.5 (on my machine it is the first item). No need to download it. I think the same thing applies to the Config program.
