Hi,

Since recently I am not able to play music anymore using Control:PC + MC200, playing on an audio device on the PC itself (using desktop audio).

The only zone available to me is the MC200 itself, which works fine. In the past I've used this often to play music while working on the PC using the MC200 library as source.

I have this issue on all my PC's (Windows 7 + Windows XP) using the latest version Control:PC.

Clicking in settings + Desktop audio shows the PC sound drivers as "waiting for system core".

Could this be a flash player update breaking things?

Anybody else experienced this issue?

Thanks for your help.

Are you running wireless? If you are, try temporarily hardwiring a PC to test. Many wireless access points built into 'routers' either disable multicast (which Sooloos relies on for device discovery) or throttles it to the point that enough multicast messages are lost to prevent reliable device discovery. If this is the case, hardwiring, changing a setting in the router (if available) or a new wireless access point are the options.

Hi,

To double check, I've just fired up Control:PC v2.394 (build 323) and queued up an album and I can hear it on my PC speakers as I type.

I suggest a couple of things:

1) Goto to your routers DHCP setting and assing fix IP addresses to your MC200 and and any other fixed hardwared servers, PC's etc. (This will ensure that DHCP will not assign different IP addresses to the MC200 et al in the future).

2) Switch off all networked connected devices including the router and WiFi devices. Then power up the router first then the MC200 and then the rest of your equipment.

Then retest Control:PC

If that does not work uninstall Control:PC reboot PC and then reinstall.

Regards,
Carl

Hi Ian, Carl

Many thanks for your feedback!

It indeed pointed me to the problem.

I use a Linksys/Cisco E3200 router (firmware 10.1.04- upgraded recently) and had to go into the security and enable "filter multicast" option, then magically the desktop audio devices appeared automatically on all pc's.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2013.

Keep enjoying Meridian next year.

How can enable "filter multicast" make multicast work?
From reading the Linksys E4200 help it suggest the other way around.(?)

Indeed was confusing to me as well, that's why I got it wrong (disabled is protect action from the router, see note below), here's more info:

Filter Multicast This feature blocks multicasting or the method of sending IP diagrams to a group of receivers in a single transmission. This option is set to Disabled by default. Select this option to enable filter multicasting.

NOTE: IP multicasting is widely used in enterprises, commercial stock exchanges and multimedia content delivery networks such as IPTV applications. If you do not use such applications, it is much advisable to keep this option disabled to protect your network from spoofing or Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.

Thanks Guido!!
That last sentence in the first paragraph clears up the smoke of the cisco/linksys multicast option. smile
