The digital output into what? The whole thing has to be a synergistic system and the digital out into DSP speakers may be very different to an unspecified DAC and then an unknown analog chain.

You have to try it in the system you have, and let your ears decide. Opinions will vary on the outcome, neither is wrong, just different. In the end you have to make the best of the kit you own.

Just to be clear I preferred the G08 connected to the 568 using its analogue outs, unsurprisingly I found the DAC in it superior to the 568, but then if you prefer it really smooth you may prefer to use the digital out from the G08.

But you are using the 568 DAC even when outputting analogue from G08. So if G08 is superior you are still running it through ADC in 568 and less superior DAC in. 568.

All Meridian processors are digital, they do not have analogue bypass, thus they perform a ADC/DAC for analogue in/outs.

Or are we misunderstanding what you are trying to say?

Hi, I can understand why you're confused... to be clear, the sound of the G08 using analogue outs into the 568 analogue in's (yes it then converts AD then DA) sounds a fair bit better than if the G08 digital out is send to the 568 digital.

So, to me its better going from the D>A>A>D>A rather than D>D>A... I can offer no firm explanation as to why this is the case but there is a distinct difference in the sound.

The only real reason I can offer is that the G08 DAC when converting 16Bit DAC is better than the 568's... but also the 568's ADC is pretty good!

If you like the sound of the G08's analog output into the 568's analogue input better than the sound of the G08's digital output into the 568's digital input, then that is all that matters. We each have different preferences.

Because I agree the analogue out sounds better.

This could be what is inferior. It also means Meridian DAC's are very good.

The whole chain counts with regard to the final sound and to say "A" is better than "B" is meaningless without the full context.

In the end, use your ears in your system and enjoy the music, which I am sure you do.
