I have upgraded from Meridian 561 to a 568 (yesterday evening) so still have to try the processor.

I am using also a G08 CD player. What is the best way to attach this CD player digital or analog?

With the 561 I really liked the analog better than the digital.
How do I get the best quality with 568 and g08 combination.

Try both, but I would go digital all the way, the 568 should be much better than the 561 DAC wise. Chris smile

GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

As above, use the digital connection; you probably have a 'Meridian Blue' SPDIF lead.

Remember to set the 568's input to 16bit, that's all that will be sent out of the G08.

All the best,

Steve.

Huh? The G08 up-samples and resolution-enhances, no?

Even on the SPDIF output? I thought it would only US & RE to it's own DACs.

I don't own one, so I don't know? I thought it may be like a 506.24 for example;the DAC is 24 bit but the SPDIF is 16 bit just like the CDs played in it.

Sorry for any confusion.

Steve.

My G08 outputs at a sampling rate of 88.2KHz (presumably at 24 bits) from its coaxial digital out. I'm not sure what it outputs on Toslink.

Hi

I would be interested in your findings RE the DAC's in the 568 VS the 561.

Regards and good luck

Brian

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies. I have added the G08 analog to 568 and I think I prefers the 561 analog. Maybe because I could set the input of the 561 to 2 volt and I cannot find this on the 568. I cannot get the optical out to work from the G08. Is this a setting? The light is working but no sound I send.

Regarding the 568 vs 568, I like the 568 more in surround (EZ is very nice), but I am having problems with dialog vs surround sound (soft vs BOOM). I think this is settings but I am trying to sort this out.

Again it is my playground for setting up a Meridian system and I like it wink

Hi Coeno

If you have bought a 568 it is probably still set up for the previous owner's system, so you may find that none of the sources have the Optical input designated as the active connector as currently configured.

If you want to evaluate the G08 via each of it's connections, you can set it up to do so via analogue, SPDIF and Optical simultaneously.

Using the legacy setup programme, go into the page for Sources, and set CD for the Optical input via the drop down input menu. Then choose any two other sources, make one of them A1 input for connection to the G08 analogue output, and make the other D1, D2, D3 or D4 input, for connection to the G08 via SPDIF.

You may want to check if the G08 digital output is upsampled all the time, or if there's a choice in it's own set up menu. If it's outputing 16 bit, follow Steve's advice above and set the Optical and SPDIF inputs on the 568 for 16 bit precision, under the tabs for the two source labels which you've chosen. If the G08 is sending out 24 bit (I presume it will if it's sending 88k) then set the 568 for 24 bit input precision. Getting this right can make quite a difference to the sound.

Hi George,

Thank you for reply. I have already tried the optical input settings on the 568. It works with other optical sources. (Marantz).

It looks like the G08 is not sending through optical. Is there also possibility to use config program for G08. Maybe there is a setting in G08 missing. Or is it always working on all outputs at the same time.

BTW is the upsampling in the G08 better than the one in the 568 or is this the same?

Hi Coeno

The G08 can be set to output 44k instead of 88k if you set it up (from the front panel) as Type 3. It may still do all of it's internal processing at high speed and simply down sample again at the output, but it does at least give you an option to try both ways with the 568.

Since your other slices work with the 568 over optical, is the a possibility of the optical lead from the G08 being fractured, or ill fitting? Surprising for it not to be working if you can see it illuminated at the Toslink output.

Hi I have a 568 and had a G08 until recently for many years. I advise you do a direct comparison but when I did I found the analogue out to the 568 superior to the digital; not as smooth but much better soundstage and bass, overall more engaging, I much preferred it.
