I am having some issues with Control:PC and Configure:PC. I will be greatful if anyone can give me some pointers.
First my set-up. PC:W7/64-bit; Router:D-Link DIR-655; C15 hardwired to the router about 2 meters from the PC and the router. DHCP IP addresses are hard coded on the router for both the PC and C15 MAC's. Everything is up to date and operational. There are no filters / multicast blocks or anything within that network.
1. Configure:PC does not see the C15 at all. All I see is the PC. I've uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times.
2. If C15 is powered down and powered up, Control:PC just spins its wheels - never connecting to C15. The IP address is correct on the C15, it is pingable from both router and the PC. I can connect via browser without any problems. When I go to the debug page from PC, the C15 is shown as connected as well as the PC as a zone. It is just that Control:PC app does not connect. The only way I can get it re-connect is re-boot the router. Rebooting C15 does not solve the problem.
Related to #2, when Control:PC works, upon launch, I see the IP of C15 on the status line (bottom of the app). When it just spins, there is no IP shown.
It is not a vital problem, but pretty irritating as rebooting router disturbs other -unrelated- operations (NAS copy etc).
Run Sooloos config program from PC and check that it picks up C15 at expected IP address. This also tests multicast that Sooloos uses for device discovery.
Consider buying a cheap basic (but reliable) switch and plug Sooloos and PC direct into that. That will take the 'router' out of loop and give you a network that is more robust. Sooloos doesn't need the 'router' if using static IP and are hard wired so no point putting something more complex into the mix if it is not needed and will mean that you ate less likely to have to interrupt NAS copies for reboots.

When you say 'DHCP IP addresses are hard coded on the router' I assume you mean you have assigned static IP addresses to your PC and Control:15.
If so have you tried letting all Sooloos devices and the PC obtain their IP addresses via DHCP? Has this been working, and is the PC that's running the Control:PC running software you downloaded from the Control:15 or did you download it from somewhere else?
Ludwig : "C15 hardwired to the router about 2 meters from the PC and the router". I don't like wireless.
Ratbert : I've assigned fixed IP's to both the PC & C15 - on the router i.e. both devices query DHCP and get always the same IP from the router. This way, if I ever change the router/switch, they can still get IP's (albeit different ones).
NCPL : I'm pretty sure I checked that. I will verify tonight.
Ian : I can not get Sooloos Config program to see C15 at all. That is the problem I was trying to state in #1.
Just to re-state, Sooloos config program does not see C15 at all; Control:PC works - until C15 is power-cycled. Then does not see it at all (just spins). After router is re-booted, it sees it again.
Ok, so Sooloos configure doesn't work, when ever I have had this issue it is either a firewall problem on either the router or PC and / or antivirus software on the PC. Have you tried temporarily disabling them? Also my Broadband router caused all kinds of issues that were resolved by adding an Apple Airport Extreme to do the routing and my Broadband router just does DHCP and the modem function.

So you haven't assigned static IP to the Sooloos device? Suggest that you do this as all you have done is reserved the IP address on the DHCP (router) server. Make it the same IP as you assigned on router although TBH you should set it outside of the address pool range of the DHCP server. This makes C15 totally non reliant on router and you can take it out of the direct loop and connect via a separate network switch instead of the switch on the rear of the router. It shouldn't make any difference, but sometimes it does hence suggestion to use an inexpensive basic switch. You may even have a spare switch hidden away in your 'man drawer'

Ratbert - I did not try with AV off. I will give it a try tonight.
Ian - I only have miscellanous (and tons of them) audio and power cables in the 'man drawer'. I'll pinch a switch from the office and give it a try. I'll also remove the reservation and hard code IP on C15.
Can not get Configure app (#1) working. Turned fw off, av off, used seperate switch. Did not configure IP on the C15 though - still using DHCP.
I can not re-create ControlPC (#2) problem. May be the additional switch resolved it. It was intermittent anyway. I will undo everything and re-try tonight.
I will also pull my ancient XP/32 and try - just in case it is 64-bit issue.
W7 64 bit works fine for me. I suspect something is amiss with your network. I have a cheap 1Gb network with a TrendNet wireless router and Trendnet switches. Cables are Monoprice CAT 6. All my Sooloos units use DHCP. No reservations and no static IP's. Try swapping network cables and jacks on your switch. Just noticed that this router uses something called SharePort, make sure that feature isn't enabled.
