Hi chez

I found the same issue with Trifield and my 561 with no sub. The same issue is there with my 568.1 and a sub, but varies in degree with programme material. Nonetheless, compared to "direct" there is always a noticeable lessening in bass, but what you gain is an increase in presence, focus and musicality IMO. I reckon it's a worthwhile trade off, and Meridian themselves do talk more of Trifield being ideal for female vocals and simply recorded material in their handbooks. I have to agree in that respect...it's better with simple vocals and folk music, and in that case there are no trade offs. They recommend "Music" for multi-miked studio rock, although I still prefer Trifield, sometimes with a few extra dB of bass via the tone controls. When all is said and done, it's still a DSP to produce something that's not there...the centre channel, so I accept the compromises.

Regards

George

JerryL - I will try what you are suggesting. My centre and rears are small speakers, should I keep these set to samll or set all to large for testing purposes?

JSA Fan - I will also try using both connections again.

Hi George - I see what you are saying about it being a 'trade-off' I could learn to live with it if it turns out everything is set up right, as all other presets sound fine (well, a lot better than fine to be honest!! [Linked Image from softronix.com] )

try setting all to large, then try setting the 2 mains to large but the rest to small. note the differences. try this without the sub.

Best regards,
Jerry

I agree that there is typically less bass in Trifield mode - stop fannying around with your processor - it's just a characteristic of Trifield mode imho
