I recently bought a BDP-83 which was working well........until last weekend when I could get sound, but no picture via my Edge (the same disc had worked previously). DVD's play fine via the Edge, as do BR's if it runs straight into the TV, so I don't think it is a cable issue.
It was running very old firmware which Oppo suggested I update & sent me a USB to do so. The update was only partially successful & Oppo have proposed sending it back for a factory update, which I will do soon, however I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to something that could be done on a temporary basis so I can do some viewing on what looks like it will be a very wet Sunday!
Thanks

Nick

I'd retry the firmware update. I have one of the first, modded 83s. I had never updated the firmware. The disk tray stopped working and the first things Oppo service prescribed was a frimware upgrade. I did it using the thumb drive option. That's what I suggest; get the firmware off the web, and load it into the Oppo. Hope it works for you as it did for me.
