I have a lot of hi rez files & I'm running out of room. mad I have two 2TB drives in my current TwinStore and I'm going to put 3TB drives in the second TwinStore. smile I have a few of questions:

When I hook up the second TwinStore, will all new audio files be stored on to the new TwinStore?

Is there any reason to reallocate some of the music on the 2TB drives of the 1st TwinStore to the 3TB drives in the second?
(See next question.)

Should I move the audio from the 2TB Drives to the 3TB drives?
(That way I could replace the "old" 2TB drives with 3 TB drives.)
If so, what's the best way to do that?

How "full" should I fill up the first TwinStore?

When two storage devices are on the network, does ControlMac have the ability to move or drag and drop audio from one storage device to the other?

Thanks in advance.

I have a two TwinStore set up here and would also be interested to know how Sooloos handles the situation. Theoretically it will look for drive space and use what is available i.e. fill up TwinStore 1 before going to 2.

However I'm not convinced that is what is happening here. At first I filled up no 1 with more than 5000 then it auto went to no 2. BUT since then I've deleted some files in the first TwinStore & it seems all new rips are going into no 2 leaving space in no 1.

I guess the only way you will be able to do what you want is to backup all from your present TwinStore, disconnect it, then connect the next unit & restore all the files to it. You can then replace the present drives with 3 TB units and use it again. I would advise care about formatting your present 2 TB HDDs until quite sure all has been restored properly on your new 3 TB unit.

Good luck - what you are planning will take a few days to achieve. I'm also running out of space but am acquiring another (used) TwinStore so I'll be running 3 of them to have a total of the 6 TB capacity you are planning.

Sooloos sort of keeps us busy (and poor) doesn't it? smirk

I would consider buying an MD600 (instead of another TwinStore) and get core enabled on that. Theoretically core on same device as store would appear to offer best solution. Second best solution, and for those such as yourself with multiple stores, is keeping core and all stores on same network switch.

With 3TB drives of MD600 or ability to turn off RAID giving nearly 6TB, you may just need the single device (plus backup of course).

+1 on Ian's comment.

I run an MD600 with 2x3TB in Raid0 with core enabled.
With 6TB in one device it avoids all the complexity of backups and restores to multiple units. Is very cost effective also vs multiple TwinStores.

The way I understand it if you have a TwinStore say half full and then add a second one that is blank, Sooloos will start to fill the second one first (Sooloos goes to the storage device with the greatest free space) and then fill from there.

I'd back up, put 3Tb drives in and then restore before I'd add a second TwinStore.

I don't have $12K to spend on a MD600.

Probably confusion between the different Mx600 models.

I'm sure same will happen when Meridian launch the MS200 wink

Sorry, yes I was confusing the MD600 and the MC600.

Let me restate my answer: I don't have $5K. LOL

You would also be benefitting from reselling the TwinStore you currently have.

And you'd end up with a current model with fresh warranty. TwinStores are almost all second-hand nowadays.
