I recently got a Meridian G68, 4 DSP5200s, and a 5200HC. They are from 2003. This is how I have it connected. The input into the G68 is an optical from my TV. This model of G68 has digital outs, main L/R and sub/center is what I am using now (just trying to use two of the speakers plus center at the moment). Main L/R goes into the digital input 1 then I output to the slave right speaker. The center goes into the center speaker input 1.

Now this G68 has one BNC comms, the order of that is out of G68, center, left then right speaker. I configure the G68 and when it comes to speaker test I get nothing. I do know the audio is coming in though because I have an analogue sub that is receiving the sound from the TV.

I have downloaded the PDF's for both the G68 and DSP5200s, they seem to contradict themselves and these speaker don't have SpeakerLink. Just digital and coax. I am not an audio guy and am in way over my head here, but man I want to hear these things!

Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to reconfigure or "type" your DSP speakers, it's all in the DSP speaker manuals linked on Duncan's excellent site. You also need to make sure comms are wired up, because that's how volume changes are sent around. You are probably pretty close to getting it working!

There are also many different types of G68, it might help to identify which one you now own...it's worth it in the end!

You mentioned Duncan excellent site, what is that? As far as which G68, the only thing I can tell is that it was made in 2003, so maybe that will narrow it down.

Thanks for the help

So I figured out I have the G68D. Is it possible to get a definitive wiring diagram of how I need to hook this thing?

Check this out Digital Theater - Wiring diagram.

The master comms and slave cables are slightly different. You will need a MSR+ if you don't have one. The digital audio cables should be somewhat straight forward.

Good luck!

Thanks for the diagram but the G68D only has one comms connection. I think I need help in the "wizard" of the G68D. There are a lot of options there and I have tried many.

Thanks for the help though.

Hi,

According to the photos on Duncan's site, there is a BNC comms output for one of the zone outputs, but there are also two DIN comms connectors on the unit.

As per the original G68 manual, page 14, you are advised to use a 511 S-patch box if you want to use more than two DSP speakers. This provides more comm ports.

Ignore the BNC comm and use the DIN comms and as the previous post do you have a 511?

Careful with the diagram mentioned. It's for a 565 which basically had an integrated patch box (511 equivalent) that dBrowne mentions.

Whilst the G68D has 3 comms sockets (2 din, 1 BNC), you only use one - for the master DSP lead marked M5. The other speakers are connected via slave S5 leads, with the audio side of the cable either being wired from the processor or from its 'twin' speaker ie FL/FR, RL/RR depending on how you have configured things. The speaker comms side of the cable is either daisy chained from the comms out of the speakers or, typically easier, back to a 511 patch box near the processor.
