Sorry folks,
I am getting a little confused on this! I am using a 596 DVD player through a 561..OK! So,... am a really going to notice a wealth of difference moving from passive speakers to DSP5500's with out a 596 upgrade and a new 568 processor?
Sorry to be so ignorant, but I need a bit of help on this one!

There is a very noticeable difference between the 561 and the 568 (more detail and focus, better sound stage). I auditioned the 568 through my passive speakers (B&W 802s) using the straight digital out and liked it very much compared to the 561 I had at the time. In the end though went for the 861 because of its upgradeability, no need for a 562 (and more interconnects) and better sound.
It is also seriously worth considering upgrading your 596 to a 598 as the upgrade possibility runs out this month. Apart from DVD-A it will allow you to use the MHR link which will give better sound again for music and films.
Good luck

I'm very skeptical about hearing differences for the dollar. But I think the 568 is also much better than the 561.
It depends on what speakers and amps your upgrading from.

James,
You will notice a wealth of difference going from passive speakers to the DSP5500s BUT this is because you are changing speakers. Do you like the DSP5500 more then any other speaker you have auditioned? If the answer is yes and the 561 passes signal to the DSP5500 then go for it. Otherwise you will need to upgrade again later to satisfy the itch to have what you really want. You are likely to replace the 561 with a 568 or 861 at some point anyway...
Personally, I prefered other speakers (Verity Parsifal, Kharma) to the Meridian speakers but each of us has to make our own decisions and DSP speakers do simplify choices.
Rod.

Thanks again,I got a bit mixed up yesterday when I spoke with Meridian(I thoughT they said I needed a 568 to senD the 24/96 information to the 55's...does anyone know if my 561 will do the job? Most of the time Meridian are more than helpful on occasion you have do drag any info out of them IMO! Depends on who answers the phone! Sorry,I am a bit new with all this DSP,but I think I am getting there! You are all a great help! Thanks in advance to everyone!
JAMES
