For anyone with a 596....I spoke with Meridian today, they are offering a 596 upgrade to the 598!
Approx cost 1,200-1,600.Sounds expensive to me!

Offer ends at the end of the month.

i have had this done and you effectively get a new machine for your money. The one to go for unfortunately is the DP - 1600, this will give you DVD Audio but also progressive scan.

Ice-Age is a refernce DVD and wow the images poped out of the screen - provided your screen/projector can handle progressive.

The upsampling on DSP speakers is also staggering for movies and music alike.

yep i barked at the price but heh i didnt buy Meridian for aiwa prices so i guess the upgrade itch just gets more expensive but worth it in the end.

My dealer always pleads poverty and "we really don't make much on the upgrades anyway". Having said that, he has budged about 10% on the 568.2 upgrade which is fairly consistent with most of my purchases from there in the last 3-4 years.

IMO, the 598 is probably the best 5xx player to date.

All,

You know all the dealer does is ship your box of to Meridian and call you when they get it back from Meridian.

Fine they have to make a living but typically they are on a 30% markup, maybe 25% there is a lot of room for negotiation on this IMHO.

Dealer loyalty is most likely to get you the best discount, build a relationship with them always helps.

Martin.

My 568 is also away. As of late this week, I think M are waiting for the parts to come in to complete the .2 upgrade. It's been about 3 weeks away from me but some of that time may have been with the dealer and shipping etc.

I'm fairly relaxed about it as the 598 straight into the 55's sounds sooooo good !!
