Hi all
I am in the process of buying home contents insurance, and was just wondering if anyone could recommend an insurance company that would cover Meridian gear? Anyone had positive/negative experiences with the various insurance companies out there, or else anyone get a good deal?
Thanks for any info

I found that Hiscox was the only company which would entertain insuring hifi worth over 2000, but it was really expensive. I eventually contacted them on the recommendation of other HHs.
Cheers

Hi Brian
I use Hiscox who are specialists in insuring higher value properties and contents. Unlike my previous insurers you don't have to individually specify items over 1000 just a total for all and they don't ask for professional valuations its up to you to keep the total updated as and when. I nearly had cause to make a claim some years ago for a lost pendant and all they required was a police incident no. for the reported loss and they would pay immediately. As it happened my wife found the pendant before payment was made but I have to give them full marks for their handling of the incident and it does give me confidence should I ever need to make a claim again
Hope that helps

Hi George
Just seen your comments vis a vis Hiscox. You do surprise me stating that they are really expensive as I found them to be more than reasonable. When I changed insurers about 6 years ago Hiscox quote was about 60% of my previous insurer and without the ridiculous conditions attached.

My insurance is fairly standard and with a high valuables limit for the 8ks, unlimited rebuilding cost for the house, home and contents about 550 with direct line?
There are other posts on here about insurance, have you googled the site?

Are you sure they will cover that tasty 861? I was with Privilige (part of Direct line) and they wouldn't touch the hifi, or the PJ; the iMac (2 y/o at that point) only just squeaked in.
I contacted several companies for quotes and every time, the sticking point was the hifi. Most of them think they are doing well allowing a couple of grand for your hifi!
Cheers

I'm with LV. Hi-fi comes under "Entertainment items". Standard policy is something pathetic like 500 but I've increased to 20k. No need to specify the items but you need proof of ownership.
Buildings and contents was 700 this year, no accidental damage but that includes out of the home cover for my SLR gear and we've had a burglary claim in the last year.
