Yes I am 2ch man.

With movies I my setup as it is, default to PLII but most of the time I then change it to Trifield to get that feeling of width. With previous setup it defaults to Discret with to option of Ambisionic but again I still prefer the upsampled trifiled wich I cant changed to it the 568.2 defaults to Discret that why I have changed the setup to non multi channel.

Though I prefere Trifield I think that in the discrete mode the sound is upsampled, is this correct.

Are there any other 2ch movie whatches out there and if so what is your prefered seetup?

Hi Skooby,
I'm still confused. I thought the point of Trifield was to populate a centre speaker with carefully selected content (derived from the L/R channels). This tends to put a proper physical sound into the centre of your setup rather than the centre that your brain creates when hearing L/R only.

Not sure what you hear with only two channels in your setup.

I'm sure that both direct and Trifield are upsampled though.

I'm not convinced 568.2/598DP will upsample DD/DTS. The "k" is always small and there is no option to choose high speed in the PC application nor through the remote like there is on some other formats.

Do I not have things set up right?

George

Upsampling is done on the discreet/cinema presets after the 598 had already decoded DTS/DD to 6 channel PCM/MHR.

So for DTS, I need to use a cinema preset. I don't think it will allow me to do that?

Confused.

Dear confused

For upsampling of DTS/DD on 568, you need the 568.2mm to be used with a 800/598DP.

The 800/598DP decodes the DTS/DD to 6 channel PCM via the MHR smartlink.

The 568.2mm can then upsample the 6 channels which then play using Discreet, Cinema or Ambisonics - not sure if you can upsample using ambisonics though.

So the 568 is not actually decoding DTS or DD so the DTS or Digital presets are not used if upsampling is required.

I figured out what's going on.

You can upsample a DTS DVD but you can't upsample a DTS CD.

Right, it probably only decodes a DVD in the player. They could probably add the support but there are so few DTS CDs out and most of them are being re-released as a DVD-A, so you get the MLP track anyway.

Interesting find though.

I reported the DTS CD issue about 6 weeks ago.

The players are detecting CD media and automatically passing the bitstream instead of trying to check content type first.

Cheers,
