Thanks again Fiddler.

Looks like we're on to something-swapped the centre and surround cables on the back of the HD621 and now have nothing via centre and nothing via surrounds. I should at least be getting the centre channel via the surrounds but as I'm not so that's a 568 problem. Still don't know waht's happening to the surround channels.

Hmmm, I didn't expect that for a result, that's for sure, scratching head.

Again, it's good to know, if any of this equipment worked before. Do you know the SPDIF to VGA Cable you have, has either worked before and is the correct one?

Try swapping back and make sure you get back what you had. You might have bad connections at the HD621 or the 568. And swapping aggravated it further.

Be careful with connectors on back of HD621, they are not that strong. That said, make sure they are fully seated. I never liked RCA's that grip too hard.

Don't move cables while anything is "live".

It's very hard to have the Player or HD621 set wrong if you have at least 3 discrete channels or more. Which is what you indicated by saying 568 display PCM MOV6 and have left, right and center working. That to me says something is wrong between back of HD621 to back of 568.2mm. And you said when you send lossy Dolby Digital you get 5.1 which means your speakers and amps are all fine.

All I can think of is defective HD621 output, defective 568.2mm input or Bad/Wrong cables.

If I recall correctly the "clock" is only used on one pair (I believe it's on Left/Right Main). If you are confusing the Mains, really wierd stuff will happen, especially when you swap cables around.

All cables must be 75 ohm or "Video" Cables. If not wierd stuff can happen.

If you can take a picture of the back of things and post it, it might give a hint what is wrong.

Might I suggest a couple of simple things to eliminate some of the potential problems? And sorry if you have already done this - I didn't see any references when scanning the thread.

Run a level calibration on the 568.2 and make sure all the speakers are working as they should (L/C/R/LS/RS/Sub). That eliminates (or identifies) all downstream comms and SPDIF issues.

Run a DD test disc on the player that identifies channels ("this is the left front", "this is the right front", etc.) with the player set to decode DD to LPCM and any output connection except HDMI removed from the player. That eliminates (or identifies) any connection problems from player via HD621 to 568.2

Hi Gianni,

His system works when he sends 5.1 DD/DTS lossy. What's not working is 5.1 discrete for BD/HD621.

Back again.

Haven't had a chance to swap out cables etc but thought I would mention a couple of things.

1.Playing a BD, I checked the output from the player on screen and it read DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 48khz.No surround sound at all (no ambience) and the 568 reads 96K.

2.I've had this set up for just over a year, but for various reasons, had not been able to use it in that time. I did, however, find some questions I had posed a when I got it, and I had no surround then either.I assumed it was down to a defective HD621 (it was defective-just had new main board fitted) but it hasn't solved this problem. So basically it didn't work before the settings update either.

Just to update my previous posting-I now see that most/all BDs are 48k rather than 96k so the BD player is outputting at the correct sample rate.

EXACTLY what cable are you using going into 568.

To my understanding not all RCA to VGA cables are wired for this application.

A couple photos of the back are worth a 1000 words.

P.S. The HD621 will upsample it to 96Khz.

No time for a photo this morning so here's a description:

The phono/SPDIF cables from the HD621 to the 513 patch box are blue and came with the 513 from a member of this site who used to have a 568.

The VGA cable from the 513 to the 568 is a shielded coaxial RGB VGA 15 way HD male to 15 way HD male from a company called Lindy.

I am now a deleriously happy camper, but at the same time feeling somewhat foolish.

Yes, I now have glorious surround sound! How come? Well I have been so fixated on settings and correct cabling , I neglected something very simple, despite the exhortations of some of you on here.

I remembered I had some spare digital audio interconnects, and swapped out the RCA cable between the surround output on the HD621 and the corresponding input on the 513.Voila-surround sound!

I haven't re-read the whole thread but I know at least one of you recommended a cable swap-doh! But thanks to everyone who chimed in and, especially to Fiddler, who was definitely barking up the right tree, and who I hope is now smiling and not shouting at his PC.

I have a long story about a failing wire, too long (eh Rick?).

It seems logical that wires that are gingerly connected are going to go when they are moved, i.e. when equipment is changed/moved around. The obvious assumption is that the new piece of kit is faulty...Have fun.
